Remember this classic? "Soldiers of Jah, do not seek a life of ease ... " Yes, singing is a nifty way to brainwash to worker bees.

Following Bible principles, we will avoid trying to live - or demand others to live - by an extensive and rigid set of dos and don'ts that go beyond the teachings of the Bible. The Watchtower, 4-15-02, pg 22, pp 15

Hmmm...this seems to be a thread it's dangerous to enter without some NiN playing. Oh, wait, I'm covered.

Out of curiosity, I've heard it said most the Kingdom Melodies were based (instrumentally, at least) on not-quite mainstream 'pop' songs from the 30s-40s. Anyone know which KM songs sound like which REAL songs? (You know, songs with stanzas that didn't sound like a 4th-grader attempting to rhyme).

Funny, I had one of the lovely Kingdom Melodies running through my mind today, I can't remember what it was though. "What will you bring, Jehovah's Kingdom..." Oh how I hated that one - and it seemed like that was a once-a-weeker. "Christ Our Exemplar" wasn't bad. Overall, the songs sucked. And the canned music just made it suck worse.

"Precious gifts from God our children are....
They are gifts from God, HE SAYS USE THE ROD"

    oh, dear.

    And for Shauna C:

"Loyal Love, God is love... This truth cheers us from above"

And one of my favoritest awkward songs of all time,
"THE WOMEN TELLING THE GOOD NEWS ARE A LARGE ARMY" oh goodness

    Ya gotta laugh.

You're gonna love this. Went to a workshop held in a Church of God Faith of Abraham church. Looked at their hymn book and was so surprised to find "We Thank You Jehovah." The dubs think their music is only in their songbook. LOL

HA. Were you around for the 'singing kingdom melodies' CD? They actually recorded someone singing various kingdom melodies - the brothers giving the talks introducing it invariably mentioned it was to show us 'how to sing the songs properly'.

Of course, they picked a bethel brother to sing all the songs (save 2, IIRC, done by a chorus of sisters).

It was *AWFUL* - I can't believe I listened to it.

And, boy, how our COs loved it. Now, see, we had no excuse to listen to worldy music anymore - kindgom songs should be playing in everybody's car and home!!
