    14. If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, swims and flies like a duck, waddles like a duck, it is almost certainly a duck."

Which sounds similar to if someone tells you who they are believe them.

Taking that out of context, I don't agree. If someone tells you who they are, and they sound like a duck, quack like a duck, etc., then they are almost certainly a duck, despite what they told you. If they told you they are a duck, all fine and good. But if they said they were an eagle, you know....

Take the duck out. They told you they were there to help you, but took advantage of you or hurt you, then they were not what they told you.

The point is to use our power of observation but don't make too much out of or reject the obvious.

LoL, point taken. In RL I tend not to jump to conclusions about folks I first meet. I never trust my first impression but often allow myself to get to know the person if I see something in them I like. I tend not to trust too many folks. I'm especially wary of ones who come on too strong. Where I have gotten in to trouble is ignoring my small voice that says somethings not quite right. I rejected the obvious. That's where the self kicking comes in. I should have known better.

I agree only in part with your number three, but you already know this. We can love people, regardless of whether or not they hold the values that we consider highest. We do it all the time. We can love people simply for being fellow humans and navigating their way through this life and world - with all the joy and heartache that entails.

I agree with 1; love number 4, 7, especially 8 (totally agree that trying should be listed as a virtue - I think Yoda disagrees though), and 9 as well.

I disagree with 13, because I disagree with your definition of faith.

But thank you for sharing the things that you hold true, Terry.

    Peace to you,

Yes, we do do it all the time. Getting kicked in the teeth later learning NOTHING from the experience, because next day we're at it again searching to replace what we lost. Leads me to conclude, irregardless our personal values, most people MUST have something to love, no matter the cost.

Love is neither objective, nor subjective, yet there it is, with us compelled to walk on hot coals to possess loving something, or being loved. As Terry said love is tricky.
