My dub mother is in her mid-80s. She's been a dub since she was 36. When I left, she tried to argue me back in for many years.

For the past 15 years, she has not mentioned the WT at all. She's had to struggle with heart trouble, cancer, and widowhood. Although I don't bring it up, I'm certain she thinks about the WT promises that she and her children would never get old and die.

    What a waste.

The mental imposition of fear induced into every JWS, goes a long way in holding on to the organization's devoted faithful adherents.

Without this fear the organization would have never gained its expanding following as it did.

Mind you all these past doctrines to suggest the world is at its end soon is now biting the organization in the ass .

Just to clarify my previous post. I wrote an imaginary scenario based on the topic title.

It does not reflect my personal thoughts after 30 years free of the JW cult. We have spawned 21 kids, including g-kids and gg-kids. No JW's among them

THREE 80 something Judge Rutherford era JWs have told me in the last five years they were depressed and never expected to see EVERYONE they knew die broke or get dementia. Lots of heavy drinking. All sounded lost and wistfull.

I'm reminded of an older couple who are passed away now. He was disappointed in the brotherhood, but he wouldn't ever come out and say it. I felt personally responsible for his encouragement. He really was a brother with a heart and I'm afraid he died let down by it all. He gave a simple talk on the school when he was really getting old, and it was so solid that the congregation actually clapped spontaneously!

I do miss the good old days when the brothers had hearts.

After thirty five years we feel cheated, and stupid thats how we feel! but we will get up tomorrow morning and just get on. We now have the truth and its not their truth AND we have our integrity, that will do me.

My elderly mother died last summer. She never mentioned the resurrection hope and her jw faith gave her no comfort.

My Brother-In-Law did everything by the book. Except for the part where he got an architectural degree that is.

He married a Pioneer only after vetting her with the Elders; he himself became an Elder by the age of 30; he and his wife decided to "wait for the New System" to have children, and just last year complications called for her getting a hystorectomy at the age of 36.

How did he cope with this news? He removed himself as an Elder, and shortly thereafter DF'ed. He told me that "it's all lies".
