Wasnt being a priest the way they hid gay sons in the past ? If the son was gay and couldnt get a girl he would become a priest and well hang out with other priests in abbots doing whatever they do all alone there.
That nonsense about being devoted to god and that a woman and family would get in the way is utter nonsense. Priests used to be involved in all manner of business, like making wine and beer. Champagne for example was invented by monks.
