    Here's a few guesses...

    • The Brooklyn waterfront is a convenient place for the Society to make their videos
    • Growing up as a JW when your friends have cellphones and you don't is "kind of rough" and a "kind of sad story"
    • Suddenly it's OK for JW youths to "go out" with worldly friends??
    • You should listen to what your "peers" say, so long as they're JWs on a Society video. Anything else is peer pressure.
    • Playing by yourself with a frisbee is the preferred sport for young people (no teams or competition involved)
    • Young JWs don't have a clue how to communicate with the opposite sex via text messages
    • "It's really up to you how you choose to communicate with this wonderful tool that you have"... even though it clearly isn't.
    • The Society's video-making department are already running out of ideas

Oh the usual nonsense, people are having fun, how can we stop them!

The sickening thing is it gets drummed into your head when you're very young 'be careful, be careful, danger,'. Now the poor kids have to worry about phones.

Even now I have to catch myself sometimes and ask what am I worrying about, why am I tense?

    Is it any wonder?

I get the impression that the WTS. wants to discourage young teens of the opposite sex conversing secretly

on cell phones. This may encourage inappropriate sexual relationships from developing and parents as well elders wont be able to see

    or hear the actual conversation.

Another plausible answer to this implied suggestion is that since many teens do carry cell phones with themselves even to Kingdom

Halls and Assemblies, you can best expect that some teens are texting one another while the meetings are in session.

We all know how boring these meetings and talks are for teens when their own social relations have such a greater importance to them

    particularly at that age.

Maybe one idiot elder heard off the media that teens now days are sex texting one another so he thinks A-ha thats whats going on.

    Very confusing.

The first person said he didn't have a cell phone at 13 and everyone else did. Does that mean JWs shouldn't at 13, or they should? It seemed to indicate they should, since as a JW he is supposed to only associate with JWs.

Then there is the heading "Watch what you text to the other sex" which seems to be the opposite of what the teens then say, such as "you can say things that you wouldn't usually say" and "it's really up to you on how you choose to use this wonderful tool that you have." Maybe the old GB want the wording to sound hip, without really understanding what is being said.

Watchtower is engaged in a plan to "normalize" themselves in the eyes of someone.
The video is designed to qualify as a public service to teens.

They will refer back to this video at some point to prove they are normal or performing a public service.

I agree with OnTheWayOut ... just like "Family Worship" they are following the lead of the Mormon cult trying to appear normal, it's PR, they should add a tag at the end .... I'm J.R.Brown and I approve this message.

"it's really up to you on how you choose to use this wonderful tool that you have."

Precisely. This single sentence renders the entire video meaningless. It it's truly up to each individual how to use a phone, then why make a video that attempts to tell them how to use one?

It's about a useful as a video that ends with the slogan, "breathing is great, you should try it!"

I think OnTheWayOut is on to something. They're trying too hard to sound "hip" for the youngsters. After all, as the "Become Jehovah's Friend" series shows, they've got their sights set on indoctrinating a new generation of drones. They don't seem keen to saying anything to teenagers that would upset them, such as "cellphones make Jehovah sad."
