Heh, okay, that's well-said, 00DAD. Maybe my devil's-advocate skills are weak today.
Why you CAN'T make sense of it.

Baltar ....sorry to hear of your situation.
Watchtower land is like being on a battlefield, some fall
and some walk away.
The battle is for our minds.
He, who can control minds ..... controls the world!
Keep fighting in your own way.

I never really compared the 2 before but it makes sense. When someone is mentally ill......they simpy cannot reason in a normal fashion. It isn't even a lack of willpower or desire. They just cannot do it. And when someone's mind is controlled by others.....trained to shut down and defend instead of reasoning on a matter......the result is still the same. The INABILITY to reason exists with both scenarios.

Thanks for the kind words you guys.
This is SO true OSTS:
When someone is mentally ill......they simply cannot reason in a normal fashion. It isn't even a lack of willpower or desire. They just cannot do it.
Trying to make sense of it is not possible either, I tried for some time and lets just say it was totally not productive. So I just have to walk away from it at this point and leave it to the professionals.
Along those lines, I wish there was more visibility for the need of counseling those leaving cults and high control groups.
My situation isn't really cult related, but the lack of those boundaries that they do setup accelerated the crazy train in this instance. Sometimes mentally ill people thrive having a higher thing to answer to and conform to rules. But it doesn't always stop them from acting out or going completely off the reservation.

When the jw cultist is ready, then a person can lend a hand and be effective. Until then, its as you say. Many newly enlightened to ttatt, feel a need to confront their former cult members. That does more for the former member than the person still a member. It is a legitimate phase for the former member to go through, imo.

BALTAR 447- I'm so sorry you are dealing with a challenging situation with your spouse. I was married for 19 years to a fanatic Bi-polar JW lady until 1998. It was a living hell to put it mildly. Especially when I started seeing the truth about the alleged " truth " and she even stooped to calling me " Satan " about a year before it ended.
Your take on this JW cult inducing mental illness in people is very true, very real. I posted a thread dealing with Steve Hassan discussing that the condition called " dissociative disorder " is actually a clinically diagnosed condition in the Psychological medical journals brought on by high stress or high control situations. Here's the link to it : http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/183134/1/Being-Under-Cult-Mind-Control-is-a-Psychological-Disorder-Steve-Hassan Peace out, Mr. Flipper

Honestly, I recognize I'm a little crazy. I also understand that the process of ending one's belief in the WT can't be done to just anyone. I understood from the beginning that no one I knew would believe me. Because they were all satisfied by their cult experience, whereas I was not. I had too many unfulfilled promises, too many cold, heartless words I read or heard said to me by people I trusted, too many problems with no solutions to be found beyond the stale, inhuman words in their literature. Ultimately, that is the key.
So it makes sense to me. It's just hard to accept, that's all.
