Once we are thoroughly convinced we have arrived at the truth, further searching would not only be fruitless, but and we may even be led, due to the enthusiasm of discovery, to dislodging the truth we have correctly acquired.

Wow, how can there be two truths? Also, can you imagine if scientists applied that kind of thinking, "no guys, I don't think we should continue doing more experiments in case we dislogdge the findings we have acquired" or "we shouldn't attempt to find a cure for AIDS as we have thoroughly convinced ourselves that a cure cannot be found".

they boil down to matters ofopinion that cannot be unconditionally proven true or false .

Ask him this: if the above is true, why does the WT insist that we believe one over the other. Why can't it let us decide which of two equally valid possibilities we want to accept for ourselves, or just let us live with not knowing for sure?

Of course the answer to that is the WTBS thinks it needs to have the one right answer to everything.

What a very interesting exchange. JWs simply won't let anyting in through the shields, no matter how logical or true it is.

Can you maybe reduce it down to one or two simple questions? Ask him to explain how, in the light of Luke 21:8 Jehovah's Witnesses can have any claim on being the chosen ones. Maybe have a look through Slimboy's thread on difficult scriptures for JWs to explain. There is some excellent stuff in there.

My main purpose is to weaken his faith in his God, the FDS, and also to present in JWN how high the cognitive dissonance runs in the JW's circles

Well, I'm afraid you are doomed on all three counts. First, he has no faith in God to weaken: his faith is in the JWs and the gnostic conspiracy theory they present as gospel.

Second, his status in this world is dependent on the FDS, as you have pointed out. How many times do you need to read stories here where some person leaving the JWs costs them everything? Why would anyone who has such a high status give it up for any reason? Ray Franz was kicked out of his position, recall. This site is loaded with people who are "fading" because they are afraid of losing what they have -- how many Elders here are grasping that status while knowing JW-ism is false? Talk about cognitive dissonance -- we got it in the ex-JW community in spades.

Which brings me to the third point: cognitive dissonance ain't just a river in Egypt!

If you want to wake up JW, it is much more effective weakening their faith in the bible...if you can show them contradictions inconsistencies in the bible they are not so scared as if you would critisize the WTS. I know it is a little bit different in the US, but in Europe most people who leave the WTS do it because they don't belive anymore.

He needs basic knowledge (education) before he can make his decision about anything and he don't want it (doesn't want it, of course). He's right about time and one's daylight burn'n (his burned) and you're just trying to catch his attention to -- duh -- read.

Fool --- does he realize there's at least one Spanish doctor in the cult, extremely educated, HIIIIIghly respected, and the heavies are dependent on him for life. His mama/papa (granny/auntie/unkie) brainwashed him/had him from hello and that's his truth and giving up his education is his stage show and literally nothing to do with God/reality or pandas. The poor sap lapped/lapping and became their sacrificial lamb.

    Then what is 'new light(TM)'?

I get the feeling he's on the verge of terminating your conversations.

I remember that dislodging feeling in my brain when I discovered the boys of Bethel had been sending teams to UN/NGO meets for years (without telling us).

He is proud to have forsaken his dream of becoming a doctor to serve Jehovah.

Makes me think of those bumper stickers, "My other car is a..."

"My other life is a doctor."

"Once we are thoroughly convinced we have arrived at the truth, further searching would not only be fruitless, but and we may even be led, due to the enthusiasm of discovery, to dislodging the truth we have correctly acquired."

^And there's the crazy talk. How can a person even type something that makes absolutely no sense at all and not notice they are typing nonsense?

Surely he must have had some small inner struggles/uncomfortable feelings or other symptoms of cognitive dissonance putting that sentence together.

    Punk said:

^^ exactly!!! This elder's crazy talk even violates the Borg's crazier talk!

If this guy is happy in his ignorance discovering TTATT could destroy that happiness. Why would you want to do that?

Some people are better off in happy ignorance even if they are living a lie. If the truth is too much to bear and would cause him to lose everything you have already asked questions that may come back to him later.

If you want to remain friends with this guy I would advise backing off now and letting your words settle. They will come back to him if the time is ever right.

    Just my opinion. x
