I'm sure the GB had some ass kissing writer pen those words in the 2001 april 15th WT.
Governing Body Members Appointed By Jesus Christ And Not Men?

Faithful brothers pre-1919 were part of the "John the Baptist" Class. Using the Bible, "Of all men born of woman in the 1800s, none is greater than Pastor Russell, yet a little one in the kingdom of God is greater than him" Watchtower? Pre-1919 all of the Bible Students were unrefined gold with scummy dross. The start of the Bible Students were imperfect men without Jesus Christ's blessing, not until they were thrown in jail with the begining of a power struggle did the Watchtower become appointed by Jesus Christ. If Cedar's is correct and the July 2013 magazine has the new Governing telling everyone that lovable Pastor Russell was not part of the Faithful Slave, will any of the witnesses be angry?
The magazine is troubling because nothing this Faithful Slave say's ever sticks! I do not think Jesus would be happy that the Watchtower is putting these men above the Apostles, the Early Church Fathers and all faithful Christians who lived before 1919. Really, what is special about the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses versus all faithful men and women of the past? How many Governing Body members do you know who gave up their life, sold every good they had and lived with the poor to preach Jesus by example? We won't ever accuse the modern day Governing Body of humility, these guys are always bragging they are "the greatest among their brothers" Luke 9:46-48:
"
The Greatest in the Kingdom (The Greatest Among The Brothers At Watchtower HQ). I added in the brackets :)
46 Then his disciples (Governing Body Members) began arguing about which of them was the greatest (of the annointed). 47 But Jesus knew their thoughts, so he brought a little child (publisher) to his side. 48 Then he said to them, "Anyone who welcomes a little child (publisher) like this on my behalf i welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me also welcomes my Father who sent me. Whoever is the least among you is the greatest."
If Jehovah and Jesus Christ were really backing them up, their insights into dealing with Pedophiles would have been better than the Catholic Church. If the Governing Body truly was appointed by Jesus Christ to watch over his Sheep, they would have been progressive with their viewpoints (depression is cured by praying), (pedophiles are not to worry about, they can be cured), (a witness does not need education), (expanding Branch buildings with money only to shut them down.), (no forward looking gifts with them, changing their doctrine and dogmas on "Generation", "Superior Authorites", "Alternative Service", "Blood Transfusions, Fragments, Organ Transplants" not the last passenger on the intellect train. The Govnering Body has been the last to get on board with progress after months or years of deliberation. They never cared if their decessions costed lives of their followers, they were safe and tucked away in their Ivory Towers and used the Witnesses as their own petri-dish to experiment on

FRANKIESPEAKIN- Very good thread. Thanks for the find and supplying the quote. Of course the GB has NEVER been appointed by Jesus, just insane men hungry for more power and control over people's lives and their money

Good thread frankiespeakin ... using your theme, I have lumped together a few quotes for amusement ...
[Cultic groups] devotion to a self-proclaimed human leader is likely to be unconditional and exclusive. Often these leaders boast of having been divinely chosen or even of being themselves divine in nature. (1) While directors of a legal corporation are voted into office by its members, the Governing Body is not appointed by any man but is appointed by Jesus Christ. (2) 'The faithful and discreet slave': A small group of brothers who are directly involved in preparing and dispensing spiritual food during Christ's presence. Today, these anointed brothers make up the Governing Body. (3)
It is vital that we recognize the faithful slave. Our spiritual health and our relationship with God depend on this channel. - Matthew 4:4; John 17:3 (4) [A mature Christian] has complete confidence in the truth as it is revealed by Jehovah God through his Son, Jesus Christ, and "the faithful and discreet slave." (5) We all need help to understand the Bible, and we cannot find the Scriptural guidance we need outside the "faithful and discreet slave" organization. (6)
Since Jehovah God and Jesus Christ completely trust the faithful and discreet slave, should we not do the same? (7) The anointed and their other sheep companions recognize that by following the lead of the modern-day Governing Body, they are in fact following their Leader, Christ. (8)
(1) w94 2/15 p. 4
(2) w01 4/15 p. 29
(3) w13 7/15 p. 22 box
(4) w13 7/15 par. 2 "Who Really Is The Faithful and Discreet Slave"
(5) w01 8/1 p. 14 par. 8
(6) w81 2/15 p. 19

The Pope was chosen by holy spirit.
The elders are appointed by holy spirit because of the qualifications in the Bible, inspired by holy spirit.
They want the GB to be appointed by Jesus the same as the apostles were.
SD7 is correct.
They were appointed by other Governing Body members, who were appointed by those on the Governing Body before them. That's the reality. But they need to say otherwise in order to preserve the illusion of being special and chosen. Wonder why?
So the GB was appointed by the board of directors from 1919.

There was no GB in 1919 in reality of course.
The problem comes from the claim being MASSIVE !
The same claim, of the same huge size, is made for the Pope, the Cardinals vote, but Holy Spirit directs their choice (why does it take several votes to get it "right" then? comes to mind).
The same claim is no doubt made for the Apostles etc of the LDS (Mormon) Church.
So, how is one supposed to judge which one of these venerable institutions is telling the truth ?
Jesus ??? are You there???? perhaps you could help us out here ???? who did you really choose, with the help of the Holy Spirit ?

Nice comments everyone.
Sd,
Thanks for the quote.
February 15, 1994 Watchtower, "Cults--What Are They?", p. 4:
Their devotion to a self-proclaimed human leader is likely to be unconditional and exclusive. Often these leaders boast of having been divinely chosen or even of being themselves divine in nature.
And
*** w01 4/15 p. 29 Do You Remember? ***
While directors of a legal corporation are voted into office by its members, the Governing Body is not appointed by any man but is appointed by Jesus Christ.
So there we have it by the Governing Body's own words they fit the decription of cult but they can't see it because of intense denial. And again I thank everyone for their contribution to this thread.
