Challenge for JW's - how do you arrive at 1919 using the Bible alone?

  So in a nutshell:

  Its the 1914 chronology + 3 1/2 years + some religiocentric events that are not in the bible ("Does it have to be in the Bible" Rattigan said!!).

  Yes, there's a gap between 1918 and 1919. October 1914 + 3.5 years = April 1918!!!!

  This glaring gap between 1918 and 1919 is filled over by reliance on non-Biblical, religiocentric events, ie, the end of WW1 followed by the release of Judge Rutherford and his Watchtower colleagues from prison.

  1918 wasn't chosen for the date Jesus selected the Watchtower as his FDS because in 1918 Joseph Rutherford and his mates were arrested!

  This is the foundation that the new 1919 understanding rests on - the post-war release from prison in 1919 of Joseph Rutherford and his buddies, a totally non-biblical event.

  Yadda, under the thread "The 1919 date" Cedars posted a little diagram that he received at an earlier MTS (not older than ten years). I see the diagram is not there anymore. Ask him to send it to you. On the diagram they make up the shortfall to 1919 with nine months (3 1/2 days = 9 months). This is the period when Rutherford et al were incarcerated. Here they apply the period 3 1/2 days (Rev. 11:9), the death of the two witnesses, to the arrest of the leaders of the WT. Unfortunately there is no Biblical evidence for it though. Just thought you might find it interesting.

  Vidquin, to think I once loved to mentally masterbate with Watchtower Chronology trying to find "The End". C.O. said "If we knew the birth of EVE we would know the year Jesus will return!" Using his logic, Satan and the Demons know the year Eve was created so would that cancel out Jesus saying "Nobody knows the Day or Hour Of the End". Does Satan know the year "The End" will come, not the day and hour according to mighty CO?

  Why are the 7 prophetic years counted out to 2520 literal years and at the same time the 3 and a half years simply left literal. The SDA church does the reverse counting the 7 years as literal years and they convert the 3.5 years to 1260days -1260 years.

  Such is the problem with the year day principle no one uses it consistently. When Jesus said he would be killed and in three days it will be rebuilt did he mean three years?

  The texts in numbers and ezekiel don't teach any year day principle. Please read it again if you aren't sure. It doesn't say when interpreting prophetic prophecy substitute a year for a day. Barry

  That's very interesting Barry. One could say that with their 1919 'new light' the JW's now have their own version of the Seventh-day Adventists 1844 investigative judgement chronology.

  Actually, the chronological reasoning behind the SDA's 1844 date is more reasonable and understandable than the Watchtower's 1919 chronology, and of course the Watchtower Society used to also ascribe chronological importance to 1844, and a host of other dates prior to 1914.

  For example, from 1879-1929, the Watch Tower Society proclaimed Christ's "invisible presence" began in 1874.

  For most of his Presidency, Judge Rutherford believed that from the late 1870's, through the formation of the Watchtower Society (1876) and the Watchtower magazine being published (1879), there was a group of modern-day 'faithful and discreet' slaves preaching a body of revived Christian truth. Rutherford actually believed for a while that Russell was that singular 'slave.'

  It is so ironic that the brief incarceration of Rutherford et al is accorded so much eschatalogical significance in filling the gap between 1918 at 1919, and yet they have abandoned what Rutherford mostly believed for so long eschatalogically in terms of when Jesus began using a 'faithful and discreet slave'.

  Not only Russell but Rutherford too would turn in his grave at the Watchtower's latest 'new light' on the subject.

  Gday yadda yaddda, Let me clarify the SDAs get 1844 from daniel 8.14 'Unto two thousand three hundred day then shall the sanctuary be cleansed 2300 days. That is converted to years from 457 bc the starting point for the seventy weeks in daniel 9 and the calculation comes to 1844.

  the three and a half years is a separate prophecy spanning from 538 to 1798 and is 1260 days converted to years. this timespan is found as 42 months, time times and a dividing of time all in revelation. This prophecy is the reighn of the papacy when they persecuted the protestants and ended in 1798 when the papacy received a fatal blow the pope was arrested by general berther.

  Of course this is the official historist view but theologians have different views suggesting a more futurist approach. To many SDAs the attack on the Pope as a product of the last century where most protestants had similar views that the Pope was the antichrist .

  I agree with your above statement, however, I'm inclined to lean towards the partial preterist's understanding that this was the persecution of the early first century Christains under Nero......as follows....

  The persecution began in the middle of November 64 A.D. and continued until June 8, 68 A.D. when Nero committed suicide, a period of 42 months.

  Lets not forget that the whole idea of making these caculations, was from some un none guy named John A Brown, a nobody or a demon possesed man??

  A statan inspired quack? Jesus said its is not in our juristiction. This is were religions get themselves in to trouble, even Russel new this yet did it any way.
