To be a good research assistant you need more than academic ability, you need other skill sets that your professor has undoubtedly assessed you to possess, possibly because of your previous experience. When he called you into his office he was interviewing you without your knowledge.

And I just got another email, this time from a professor I don't personally know. The professor teaching my physical chemistry class recommended me as a research assistant within the Chemistry department. I'm in the Engineering department, so I wouldn't have expected they'd consider me, particularly when there are so many chem and biochem majors. This would be with nanoscale and molecular systems.
I guess lightning can strike me twice in the same week. Maybe I should buy some lottery tickets?
