Yeah, no kidding. But they thought they were doing what was right. Maybe a contributing factor is they were both regular pioneers.
I just noticed a major omission in the list of DF'ing offenses

You can't make this stuff up.
I have recently been having a conversation with a brother about the blood thing. He is a family friend and an elder (former CO). He told me there was a case where someone took blood, and they were not disfellowshipped. His point was to try to say it isn't "enforced". I asked him if the person was repentant or not. of course he was "weak" at the time he made his decision and so he was "delt with mercifully" (seriously this sounds like game of thrones).
I asked what would have happened if he didn't feel he did anything wrong acording to scripture and his conscience.

Black Sheep thanks for the heads up. I didn't think to look there, I can only read so much of that crap before I start to worry about my head exploding.

"They say there is no appealing DA because the action was taken by the publisher themselves, but on the other hand it is only if the person "unrepentantly" takes blood. How do they determine repentance in this context without some sort of meeting? "
There is a meeting afterwards. And either having been "forced" to receive blood, or being in a weak position because of illness/accident and not thinking straight or understanding fully what is being said or done, or just a momentary spiritual weakness which one regrets - will lead to no actions taken against you.

It is a DA offence, as mentioned already. In my opinion, it is the same thing as DF. It is actually worse, as you get no right of appeal for the decision of the elders.
"Willingly and unrepentantIy taking blood.
If someone willingly takes blood, perhaps because of being under extreme pressure, the committee should obtain the facts and determine the individual's attitude. If he is repentant, the committee would provide spiritual assistance in the spirit of Galatians 6:1 and Jude 22,23. Since he is spiritually weak, he would not qualify for special privileges for a period of time, and it may be necessary to remove certain basic privileges. Depending on the circumstances, the committee may also need to arrange for an announcement to the congregation: "The elders have handled a matter having to do with [name of person]. You will be glad to know that spiritual shepherds are endeavoring to render assistance." On the other hand, if the eIders on the committee determine that he is unrepentant, they should announce his disassociation." Shepherd the Flock of God pp.111,112 -

I think that anything that a Jw could do that would be worthy of a DF, that if found out by the public would make them look even crazier and or violate civil rights, like voting, saluting the flag etc,.. (not sure if those are civil rights, but you get the point) they make sure that they make it look like the person has DA themselves so that they cannot pin it on the Org.
