Geoffrey Jackson of the GB to give a talk in Australia this weekend

I think he is a decent guy. He was always hilarious to be around. The people in Hobart that he grew up with could not believe it when he made GB, because that thought he was not serious enough. He is also intelligent, being the first person to publish a Tuvaluan dictionary.

When he claimed to be anointed, at about 40, it seemed very strange to everyone. I guess I am now biased, but it seems to have been a strategic move to get onto the GB. He had already been on branch committees, and the only way up the corporate ladder was getting anointed.

I would love to ask him if he really believes what he preaches, though he would never truthfully answer. As with anyone raised a JW, he may have underlying doubts, but convinces himself it is true, and when he gives a talk he really knows how to "sell" the truth. He is not like Anthony Morris, his talks are motivational and great to listen to.

What's Morris like? I've only heard Lett and Losch speak. I'm curious to listen to the zone talk, but my mum urges me to just put all things JW behind me and move on with my life now I'm done with Watchtower-ism.

Still, it would be interesting to hear him, since you know him to be a good egg.

I've heard female JWs talking about 'what a privilege' it is that this turkey is going to be giving a talk at the arsembly they are going to spend their year's savings going to. You would have thought you were listening to Catholics talking about their Pope.

Is there some reason he is giving this special talk? What's the theme?

It's just a zone visit apparently. We've had them before , once I think, by som bethel big shot. The gb guy is Australian so it could be to coincide with his yearly family visit to Australia (paid for by our donations to the worldwide work no doubt- I wish my job gave me an international trip each year) and I have no idea of the theme. Maybe the title was announced; I haven't been going lately so I haven't heard.

We had Jackson at a DC a few years back.

He comes across as personable and a nice chap. His talks are better than average.

Of course, he's all in as a believer, and is quite likely addicted to the power, prestige, and adulation that comes with being a GB member.

Hi Julia unfortunately I will be going, the talk starts at 12.00pm right on lunch time and goes until 3.30pm. I am looking forward to listening to all the whinging kids ( yeh right). I have heard its going to be about the preaching work, yawn how exciting. I am thinking of exiting half way through if I've had enough. Not to mention my rumbling stomach lol. Seriously these idiots who arrange this crap don't consider people with children who need to be fed and what about us older folks they couldn't give a damn. Just goes to show they are so out of touch with the real world, they remind me of our dumbass politicians in many ways grrrr!!!! I will let you know how it all pans out.

    Cheers lozza

Well if he does we won't hear her give a talk!

Bet no one will stick around for the wt study. I pity all you who have to sit thru that, and all the oohs and ahs the brothers and sisters will utter afterwards about how great the talk was and how close to the end we must be. Looking forward to reading a synopsis of it here.
