Their constant bashing of higher education is one of the major things that helped wake me up.

keep people poor, stupid and ignorant and you can control them. The catholic church did it for a thousand years or so.

The Governing Body cannot exercise corporate authority over a congregation made up of a good percentage of college graduates, their bible interpetations are so naive and childish, steeped in wishful thinking and leaps in logic that educated people would have a hard time sitting still for any lenght of time listening to such fancifull drivel let alone underline a watchtower to give a word for word reading comment.

One of my offspring was explaining to me years ago the chief difference he experienced between School and University that he noticed as soon as he got there, he said: " they teach us to think, to question why something is so, to search for the reasons behind the facts, they do not just teach us facts".

With Critical Thinking aboard he never went to a WT Meeting again.

Education along with C.T is the real big enemy of any totalitarian system, be it the Taliban, North Korea or the totalitarian WT.

Just to say that the part about not being appointed because one has a university degree isn't applicable everywhere.

I was made a MS then an elder many years after having a master's degree. No, I didn't "convert"; I am a "born-in".

I moved to a small regional city to work once I finished my degree and people in the congregation looked at me like I wax possessed. It wasn't so bad when I lived in a bigger city; some JWs actually thought it was pretty cool that I studied, but most were intimidated by it. I'm glad I did what I thought was right and not the wt.

One thing the gb bangs on about which they claim is bad about uni is bad associations and drunken parties and debauchery. I must say in 5 years at uni I never saw anything like that, but did hear about it. But guess what- parties and drunkenness occurs not just among uni students...but some JWs think uni is like those 'American Pie' type movies. JWs would lecture me on the evils of uni life and then I'd say, 'oh what did you study at uni?' And the answer the uni bashers gave was, 'I have never been...'
