To me attraction is like a foundation. You are attracted to someone…but as you get to know them, either the attraction grows and stays or it fizzles out. If it grows I think it morphs into love and it lasts if the love is based on such things like respect, dignity and admiration.

I’ve been attracted to the same man for 25 years. It’s lasted through distance, time, his relationships and my marriage to someone else. It’s one of the most amazing things I have ever experienced!
If I saw him RIGHT NOW I would get butterflies and start acting like a goofy kid!!!

That couple I mentioned, many years later they attended a marriage workshop and took a quiz. According to those results, they were still behaving as newlyweds. The counsellor advised that it was time for their relationship to "mature". The two of them, they've always been such a team (I've modeled my own relationship after theirs) were bemused by the advice. They'd found the secret of happiness. Why give it up?

I think we got counseled for this. My (future) wife and I sort of liked each other so we drove ~100 miles to a circuit assembly together. We really hit off, so when we got home after the CA I took her out to dinner. We'd only been witnesses a few months at that point, none of my prior relationships had lasted more than a couple of months. Over dinner I knew that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with this woman. That was 39 years ago and we've managed to stay together through all sorts of ups and downs.

I can't help myself, the very couple I just talked about, the husband has just posted a picture of his wife in a bikini on Facebook. He writes:

"Can you believe this woman has been married for 36 years and has 5 grandchildren!? (you still look amazing!!!) The 1st half of our marriage has been wonderful. I’m looking forward to the next 36 years. (there may be less years remaining if you kill me for posting this picture :-) Happy Anniversary Sweetheart."

After almost 22 years of being together hubby still makes me laugh and he thinks I'm damn sexy but at the core we're best friends. Attraction was the start.
