this has developed into a regular habit now. i work for this company i don't partucularly want to work for, but in order to get a salary i do. (trust me i'm looking for better options) every single month, bar one, they have have paid me late. their contract states the laste day of the month we get paid. yet i have been paid up to a week late at times. the problem with this is that debit orders start going off from the first of the month, and i have always prided myself in paying what is due on time - plus you start getting charged interest if you are late by the establishment and the bank will charge you for not having enough funds in the account.

i have brought this up, but these people just don't care, are not considerate! and i'm throwing in that they are 'big christian' because they always say so, have blessed the place of work, the guy stands up and preaches....and yet they cannot keep a contractual word - they never have from the beginning.

*deep breath* it will be ok!

    dont turn up for work.

when they get cranky at you go ballistic back at them. No money no worky.

If they run a business that close to the wire (meaning they have their own cash flow problems) they have no business employing people, they are basically not viable most of the time

Because we could all use a little more stress in life: Double up your effots to get out of there, sis. Employers like that have no regard whatsoever for you or your needs. Even with laws in place to protect workers from that kind of employer irresponsibility and abuse, the worker is often left on her own. You can't fix people like that so just try to get out of there.

Sorry you're having to deal with this.

    - Leave that place stat, they're having money issues and soon enough EVERYONE there will be looking for jobs, get a jump start on the market.

    - If you have late fees and stuff you can't get resolved with your bank, sue them for it. If you're in the EU or US, most likely there will be some kind of organization that will help you fighting against such practices.

Don't be surprised if one day you show up and the locks have been changed out and there is a forclosure notice on their front door, and your last paycheck bounces. I worked for a place like this once, but I gained a lot of experience from it and it was a stepping stone to my next career move.

Find another job ASAP. A good business doesn't choose to operate like that. They are operating like that for a reason. Chances are that soon they will close the doors, and you will not get your last pay check. Hopefully, if you leave on your own terms while they are still in business, they will pay you your last pay check. Good luck.

LouBelle, I agree with what others have said here. It's a bad sign. No reputable company treats employees like that. Do you have any worker legislation that could help? Or your political representative?

I am with Aussie on this.

Wait for the day or days of month they need you the most and call out sick (you won't be lying - sick of them, that is). Sends a nice message.

I have had the same issues in the past. Look for another job. The late paycheck is a sign of financial instability in the company. They will not survuve long. they are probably robbing peter to pay paul. In other words they are using payroll funds to pay their creditors.

Knowing how difficult it is in South Africa right now, I understand completely if you hang on to the job in hand until you find something better. I like the idea of reporting this organization to the regulatory body.

I had a girlfriend who worked for a small airline. One day she showed up for work and the doors were locked. The company had gone bankrupt. The poor employees, owed several week's pay, become just another pool of creditors lined up a the door.
