    @zeb - thank you.

    Then to add insult to injury, my sister who is a JW crashdummy had the nerve to call my son after the funeral and tell him that I should not be talking to her daughters because I'm disfellowshipped. They just happen to be a the funeral, but I was not there for them. My sister is just crazy and completely dysfunctional. Her being a witness has made her even more insane. She get crazier and crazier the deeper she roots herself into that cult. She uses the cult to control the people around her just like they control her.

    Note the passive-aggressive third party messaging. This drives me nuts. If a Witness "misses" you, or wants you out of their life, they should tell you so directly. If a Witness is "stumbled" when they see you eat blood sausage or rent a Harry Potter, they should go to you directly, not an elder. (Matthew 18:15)

    Why involve your son? Because they don't want to face your natural reaction to such stupidity.

    they don't invest a dime in the youth, nothing!

    Not trying to hijack this thread, this comment really deserves its own, but I think that this is a major issue with the WTS. They relegate any and all bible instruction to the parents (father really). If this is the case then why force the parents to waste hours in meetings, ministry, assemblies, conventions, etc. Take that all away and allow parents to raise their kids.

    If they can't give parents their time back then how about after the public talk, designate an elder to go in the library and discuss a topic easy for kids to understand and that is relateable to them. So simple yet they dont want to be "mainstreaming it" you know Sunday School. So stupid this religion and they wonder why they are bleeding kids left and right.

    In two churches I attended the pastor would call the children around before they ran off to Sunday School (we would complete the worship part of the service together) and tell a story.

    @ XBEHERE - Yep, they tell them don't do this, don't do that, but they provide no alternatives.

    • Don't get involved in sports, but they substitute that with nothing.
    • Don't go to prom, but there are no alternative ways for young people to interaction in a positive way. Heck, they even badger them about congregating after the meeting if they are not talking about Jehovah.
    • Don't get involved with activity or social clubs at school, but nothing is formed to offer them a way to have that same positive experience within the organization
    • You are not allowed to have any special interest (music, dance classes, cheerleading, etc.) because that would take time away from studying and going out in field circus. You will be blame for calling too much attention to yourself and not putting Jehovah first because God forbid you try to outshine the organization and it's message by calling attention to any special talent YOU possess.
    • Don't try to prepare young people for higher education or to have any kind of career goals, don't even prepare them for the ever changing and challenging work environment young adults are forced to navigate to earn a living.

    This list can go and go. Kids coming out of this cult or lost and suffering behind the asinine decisions of their parents and this diabolical organization.

    My condolences on the loss of this young person and to your son on the loss of his friend. It's disgusting how the WT Society devalues young people and women . It's sick how they devalue aLL their JW members and give these WT marketing funeral talks without acknowledging the actual person and his or her accomplishments in life as far as being a good person. I shudder to think how it will be when my older JW parents die. I know I won't be able to keep my mouth shut about it

    @ flipper - I wanted to say something sooo bad. It took everything I had just to keep my mouth shut, because I did not want to hurt the mother. She was already at the lowest point in her life behind the death of her son.

    I also wondered how she is dealing with the fact the elders encouraged her to break ties with her son when he left the KH. I know there has to be some serious regrets going on and 'if only I had'

    jehovahs witnesses funeral talks are really a forum for preaching their view on the ressurection other than a memorial of the individual. I'm df'd and other than my wife and her mother the rest of her family are not. what I respect about them is other than the ceremony that focus truly on the individual, anyone is able to give some thoughts of their deccessd loved one. they don't allow any speaker to make there own outline. so its very rigid and dry. how sad.
