Seraphim: This is not quite accurate.

Jesus didn't inspect and appoint the fds.

According to the new "understanding", Jesus did indeed select his "faithful and discreet slave" organization in 1919 (nothing new), what they moved to the future was an additional appointment "over all his belongings" (new) and that the "faithful and discreet slave" came into existence in 1919 and consists only of responsible anointed ones overseeing the work at "God's Organization" or Watch Tower Headquarters (new ... and linked with the Governing Body since it's inception) as opposed to there always having been a faithful and discreet slave class since Jesus' ascension in 33 CE and identified as all anointed JW's since 1919.

Perhaps the word abandons is a bit to strong but to be fair the article itself used this title: “Watchtower Society Changes Doctrine of 1914 (Again).”

I typed the title to the thread in my own words and I used the word `abandoned` due to my own view, which no one is forced to agree with, that 1914 and subsequent doctrinal evolutionary developments were largely built on the 1914 doctrine, including the 1919 inspection of the FDS ect. Obviously in actuality as soon that they abandoned the 1914 doctrine proper, other built upon doctrines were no longer valid, yet they kept to them and shed some as time went by but this is the last one. The 1914 doctrine was not just one doctrine but several hanging together and co-dependent on each. So in this way they have now completely dispensed with the 1914 and related doctrines.

wannabefree thats a good point you make.

The WTS does so much 'shifty double-talk' that even their followers don't understand but unfortunately, just 'know' the GB 'do' understand it.

I haven't seen a WT in years - just had a quick look at that - their graphic design is 100x better! even have some nice infographics, layouts, typography and QR codes, definately going more modern!

    "Evidently" your title was misleading.

Better yet, why don't you explain to me what in the article abandons "1914".

On Page 3 of the magazine, paragraph 3, it explains that the WTS used to believe that the Great Tribulation began in 1914 and was cut short thus ending in 1918.

Paragraph 5 then goes on to explain that was not correct.

However you would be hard pressed to find any current JW's that remembered this teaching. The idea dates back to the WT of May 1, 1925 and was finally dropped with the WT of January 15, 1970. Since then it has always been believed that the GT is in the future.

Everything else of significance about 1914, the calculation from 607 BCE and the setting up of the Kingdom in heaven, the ousting of Satan etc is unchanged. The opportunity to drop 1914 any time soon has been missed. The WTS has painted itself into a corner on that one and will be there for the foreseeable future.

At least 50% (in my experience) do not understand very much of what is being discussed. Probably only 20% really follow the "truth" closely, 50% don't understand (as I said) and the remaining 30% understand some things and not others.

If 1914 is in error then 1919! 1935, and all subsequent "millennium" teachings, such as the gathering of the wheat, the princes appointed in the earth, the gathering of the earthly (the so called great crowd) class, is at best running ahead of Christ and/or at worse a false and misleading "good news".

It is true that they have delayed the END again. Sure they say it will be SOON, but they delay it with their changing doctrine. When will the GT start and prove that the GB are right in their prophecies expectations, thereby giving us ample reason to trust them implicitly like Jesus does? SOON!!!

Don't feel too bad about getting confused. Not even District Overseers can explain " the truth." It's a mind-frak.

    Peace,
