What about all the other 1,001 times you prayed for an intervention/blessing, and didn't get it? Did you think you were "bad" or just figure God was too busy to bother with you?

This past year, I have done a lot of reflecting. My ex-husband was an abuser. He had surgery. I am a decent, warm hearted person. I prayed that the surgery go well and we be blessed with his recovery. His surgery went fine, recovery, fine. Back to abusing in no time.
A fellow Elder, a really decent human being, had the same operation, wife and kids at Hospital praying to be blessed with surgeons skilled hands and a fast recovery to bring their sweet, kind and loving husband and father, back home.
He died in the Recovery Room.
Jehovah's rich blessing for - for - whom? Or just tragic circumstances all around?

When someone "brags" Jehovah blessed them, what are they really saying?
If you buy something, good price, just what you want, is it your insightfulness , your input, your reading up on the subject, your leg work...or God's blessing?
If you want a child and you easily get pregnant and deliver a healthy infant 9 months later, did you get "blessed" or did you and your husband have the right eggs and sperm and healthy uterus to get the job done? What about all the other sisters who want to be moms too? Is Jehovah just an Israelite God of War?
If you are out of work, posting resumes everywhere, your home is going to go into foreclosure if you don't get a paycheck quick, and you land a job, that "saves" your bacon, is it your steadfastness in looking for work or did you get a divine intervention, and getting the job was God blessing you? What about all the other JW's in the down turn in the economy, who lost well paying jobs, and homes, what about them? Who would be so cruel to give to one and not all the others?

An elder in the KH I attend, good man, mild person, out of a job for two years, praying... got nothing. Me? Have a good job with offers for other jobs coming out of my ears. We're in the same industry. He says to me one day (mind you that I stepped aside as an elder), "Jehovah is really blessing you."
Me = shocked that he would even say that... a person doing his all as a JW and getting squat, and me not and getting everything. What irony!
I agree with you and hate this way that people describe blessings. A pioneer gets a bag of groceries on their doorstep when they have no food. But, down the street someone is being abused by a pedophile. Or you get blessed with new clothing, but another person has a miscarriage. It's very cruel and wrong to think that way in my opinion.
Comatose...I agree with you.

yes and i came in contact with everyone on jwn: you guys are my blessings
Every time I prayed to joke-hova asking that thing for anything, it would immediately work to prevent it from coming into my life. And when I pray to Satan for the same thing, joke-hova would meddle and prevent Satan from delivering, too. Joke-hova never gave poor Satan a fair chance.
If Christian prayer worked then medical/financial/political/social/sporting miracles would abound and US hospitals would be empty places, nobody would be poor, everyone would eat well and you could tell the level of someone's faith simply by the health and wealth of said individual. The obvious truth is that prayer may have mild meditation benefits and better personal planning effects but it has absolutely zero material impact on the world because there is no spiritual, invisible world ,accessible by telepathy, controlling the real world and just itching to jump in and muck up physics by miracles.
Qcmbr, Well said.
