It's not difficult at all making friends outside the borg. I bet there are many here that could give you suggestions. Here's one! Contact your county road department and tell them you want to adopt a stretch of highway to keep clean but don't have anyone to work with you. Most likely they will have others in the same category and will team you up to work together. Bingo, new acquaintence! You could also go to the senior center and volunteer to help with the reading material. Always needs someone to update the periodicals.. same with volunteering at the local library.
Not everyone you meet will necessarily be interested in religion or your past but hey, getting that out of your mind for a while each day will be good theorpy.

I'm glad you finally posted and told us a little bit about yourself. Your story also gives many of us hope...those of us with relatives who have been "in" as long as you have.
Excellent advice about making new friends...you can do it after you leave too, and we have found meeting or having more personal correspondence with people from this board to be an excellent way to make new friends. So pick someone whose posting style you like and send them an email!
