Where do Jehovah's Witnesses get all their contrary ideas and doctrines?

Isn't it directly from heaven because they are "anointed" and have been selected as Jehovah's channel of communication?

    Hell no!

JW's are just one link in a long chain of people who piggy-back off previous looney tunes theories.

Each person who comes up with a doctrine, a calendar event, a chronology, an explanation usually FAILS miserably until the NEXT idiot

continues where the last idiot left off--and does it all over again!!

    CHAIN OF FOOLS

Who are these people and what premise, what reason what platform did they come up with to justify CHANGING christianity into their own private domain of "Truth"?

    1. Martin Luther wrested away the power of Catholic "authority" to interpret scripture by inventing (out of thin air) a new doctrine.

    A. The Catholic Doctrine was Magisterium B. The Protestant replacement doctrine was Sola Scriptura (the bible alone).

2.William Miller, after the war of 1812, using his family bible and whatever other books were in his family's library; Miller cut and pasted his own CHRONOLOGY together. What PREMISE did Miller use? Martin Luther's premise: sola scriptura.

    A. Miller's arithmetic and cherry-picked scriptures from Daniel and the now familiar "other" sources came up with 1844: Christ's return!

B.Miller, although not a trained theologian, was invited to preach his "method of computation" in various churches. The local untrained farmers and poorly schooled women folk ate it up like apple pie and ice cream! Thousands of listeners were convinced!

C.As the date approached the mainstream christian denominations warned their gullible members it would all prove to be a folly.

    3. THE GREAT DISAPPOINTMENT was just that: a great big nothing. The target date came and went. Miller was unfazed!

4.New dates were set and those failed too! Miller apologized but continued to believe he was "close" but probably not too far wrong until he died.

    MONKEY SEE-MONKEY DO

After Miller, do you think those thousands of disappointed believers shrugged and admitted they were duped?? NO WAY!

    It started all over again.

Various persons tried date setting chronologies and all of them got it wrong!

    5. Ellen White (knocked on the skull as a child) had "visions". Those visions proved useful for 2nd Adventists. God was speaking to her directly!

What was Ellen White's PREMISE?? A bump on her head and subsequent "visions"!

SLAVES and CHARTS AND PYRAMIDS, OH MY!

A whole "industry" of charts and dispensational teachings mushroomed into a crazy "hobby" for people excited by the prospect of living in the END TIMES.

Among those persons is our old pal: CHARLES TAZE RUSSELL.

6.Russell used his family fortune to fund speculations and to print articles about the 2nd Coming.

    A. At first Russell championed any exciting idea that seemed valuable but later broke off on his own.

    B. Russell became convinced (as had Miller, whom he admired) that the arithmetic of the bible demonstrated THE END WAS NEAR!

    c. Russell set up a corporation for the purpose of publishing warnings as though from a watchman standing in a WATCHTOWER who sees ahead.

7.Russell married an excellent, ambitious and intelligent woman, Maria who edited Russell's writings and came up with ideas of her own.

    A. Like Ellen White, Maria concocted a way both she and Charles could have "visions" of True teaching. This became the doctrine of the "faithful and wise servant" or the FDS bullshit we find so endearing today among JW's.

    B. Russell's reputation was being pounded by all the denominations he had been attacking and he sent Maria on a world tour to smooth things among the Bible Students. Maria was so charming and intelligent she sucked all the glory out of the room and became very popular!

C.Russell became bitter and estranged from her. A number of accusations, lawsuits and an official legal separation came next to keep Maria from having any hope of publishing through the Watchtower corporation or laying hands on his wealth.

Q: What was the excuse given for Russell's channel of communication?

A: Maria's wacky interpretation of the scripture about the "faithful and wise servant."

Also Russell was referred to as the Laodicean messenger foretold in Revelation to come in the "Last Days". In other words, Russell simply claimed authority for himself.

A.Russell's predictions never worked out. They came from Pyramidology and cherry-picked nonsense like William Miller had done.

B.Russell claimed 1873/74 as the date Jesus returned. When Jesus didn't show up---Russell declared Jesus officially "invisible"!

8.After Russell died, "Judge" Rutherford pulled a fast one and made himself the next President of the Watchtower Society.

    A. At first Rutherford had a board of Directors. When they tried to stifle his crazy ideas he dismissed them and kept their names on the banner as "directors" even though they were not allowed a say in anything!

    B. Rutherford began a preaching campaign MILLIONS NOW LIVING WILL NEVER DIE which targeted 1925 as Armageddon and the resurrection.

    C. When 1925 proved to be false prophecy, Rutherford claimed he had "made an ass of" himself. He continued his crazy rants and teachings

OF DRUNKARDS AND GIMMICKS AND LIES

On what foundation did Rutherford establish himself as "Jehovah's Channel"?

Rutherford, at first, claimed Russell was editing the Watchtower from heaven but later simply RE-INTERPRETED the FDS scripture to include himself.

    8. After Rutherford's death, Nathan Knorr and his resident prophet Fred Franz cooked up, reworked and reworded adventist and bible student ideas

and eventually changed every one of them to suit themselves! The Adventist idea of "new light" became Watchtower-speak for "Now we've finally got it right!"

A.Knorr and Franz engineered the new Chronology identifying 1975 as the date Armageddon would arrive.

B.Pressure from the board of directors forced Knorr to relinquish his autonomy as sole authority and the Governing Body became more evenly distributed among several men (as many as 9) who could--presumably stop wild, weird and wacky ideas from being published!

What was the explanation for Knorr and Franz as "Jehovah's channel"?

The continued application of Maria Russell's interpretation (with some changes) of the "faithful and wise servant" scripture.

THE MOST IMPORTANT YEAR OF ABSOLUTELY NOTHING

Enough damage had been done by 1975 to provide a feast of folly for critics and ex-members to point out the

    incompetency of Jehovah's governing body.

Since it was still PRE-INTERNET--the Society began cracking down and silencing critics who knew the most about errors on their part.

In 1983 the disfellowship policy became so severe that it applied not merely to religious interactions between members and ex-members but to SECULAR and CASUAL encounters as well. The religion officially became a cult!

Since that time, all efforts have zeroed in on making it a high crime to speak out against the Governing Body.

Demands for Loyalty above all else increase as more and more "old teachings" become impossible to defend and changes are forced upon the religion.

It is now UNTHINKABLE that any voice of criticism be allowed to sound an alarm!

THE BASIS from the beginning for "Jehovah's Channel" has always been human imagination.

Amateur theologians hunt and pick through the bible and twist various unconnected passages into a Pretzel-shape of NEW LIGHT.

Every time the New Light fades it is ignored and replaced.

TRIAL and ERROR would at least lead to progressive doctrines.

But, there is no method at all applied to creating BELIEFS and DOCTRINES other than mere crazy-thinking and contrarian ideology.

    There is no "there" there!

Claiming to be "anointed" doesn't mean doodly squat!

Good summation of end time hucksterism. I am always cutious as to what causes a person to come to believe they are of the annointed. They say "you just know". But how? It sure isn't holy spirit, but what then? My sister was blackmailed into going back after thirty years disassociated, now she's drinking the kool-aid big time. So right after she got reinstated and before she began shunning me, she told me a "voice in her head" kept saying "You are of annointed, tell the brothers". I found out later she has end stage lyme disease, she started having seizures, so my guess is, that is what caused it, but who knows? We also discussed the fact that, as a recently reinstated sister with an unbelieving mate she was low on the pecking order, I think it might be an unconscious need to gain some kind of status, although she agreed with me that the elders would likely think she was just loopy. Strange thing, kind of like the holy rollers speaking in tounges.

Even if the anointed were truly guided by god, you still can't trust them, as the following quote illustrates regarding failed dates and expectations:

Did the Lord tell us that we would be taken [to heaven] there? No. What did He say? His Word and the fulfil[l]ments of prophecy seemed to point unmistakably that this date marked the end of the Gentile Times. We inferred from this that the Church’s ‘change’ would take place on or before that date. But God did not tell us that it would be so. He permitted us to draw that inference; and we believe that it has proven to be a necessary test upon God’s dear saints everywhere." jvchap.10p.136GrowinginAccurateKnowledgeoftheTruth

So, God could be lying to the anointed (according to this quote) in order to cull the herd and deceive the faithful. Either way, any errors are god's fault-not the Watchtower's. The hubris is astounding.

"Just knowing" you are special is kind of like printing your own currency.

When I first started going to the Kingdom Hall my best-best buddy, Johnny (who was indoctrinating me!) told me for the first time

about the "remnant." He sort of had a hush to his voice....an awe!r

Pointing out an elderly sister to me he said, "See that lady? Her name is Boots Richardson. She's 'of the anointed'. Hers is the 'heavenly calling'."

Naturally all of that mumbo jumbo meant something to HIM and nothing whatsoever to me!

But, I did notice that anointed brothers and sisters were like visiting royalty to some persons in the congregation.

I never could quite wrap my head around what the hell all that meant. The only religious indoctrination I'd ever had was from my grandmother

who had been reared in a Catholic convent!

I simply assumed that you either went to heaven or.......well--I didn't have an alternate scenario. Hell never struck me as anything more than

    vivid imagination.

But, if you want attention, claiming to be of the anointed is a nice way to achieve that goal!

In the past at least the governing body and anointed superficially pretended to be on the same level as the rank-and-file. Now they are blatantly better than all of us. The GB has hijacked the honor that used to go to all anointed and has taken it exclusively for themselves. So much for god's spirit operating equally for all Jehovah's Witnesses:

    w96 6/15 p. 31 Questions From Readers

"The ‘other sheep’ today perform the same preaching work as the remnant, under the same trying conditions, and manifest the same faithfulness and integrity. They feed at the same spiritual table, eating the same food, absorbing the same truths. Being of the earthly class, with earthly hopes and a keen interest in earthly things, they might interest themselves more in scriptures relating to earthly conditions in the new world; whereas the anointed remnant, with heavenly hopes and strong personal interest in the things of the spirit, might study more diligently those things in God’s Word. . . . Yet the fact remains that the same truths and the same understanding are available to both classes, and it is just how the individuals apply themselves in study that determines the comprehension of heavenly and earthly things they acquire. The Lord’s spirit is available in equal portions to both classes, and knowledge and understanding are offered equally to both, with equal opportunities for absorbing it."

    *** w91 3/15 p. 22 Who Really Have a Heavenly Calling? ***

In the first century C.E., when a general invitation was going out to seek entrance into the heavenly Kingdom, not all anointed Christians held positions of responsibility as members of the governing body or as elders or ministerial servants. Many were women, and they had no special authority; nor does spirit anointing bring extraordinary understanding of God’s Word, for Paul found it necessary to instruct and counsel certain anointed ones. (1 Corinthians 3:1-3; Hebrews 5:11-14) Those with the heavenly calling do not view themselves as prominent individuals, and they do not draw attention to their being anointed ones. Rather, they manifest the humility rightly expected of those having "the mind of Christ." (1 Corinthians 2:16) They also realize that God’s righteous requirements must be met by all Christians, whether their hope is heavenly or earthly.

Professing to have a heavenly calling does not bring a person special revelations

God has a channel of communication through which he provides spiritual food for his earthly organization. (Matthew 24:45-47) So nobody should think that being an anointed Christian gives him wisdom superior to that of the "great crowd" with the earthly hope. (Revelation 7:9) Spirit anointing is not indicated by proficiency in witnessing, answering Scriptural questions, or giving Bible talks, for Christians with the earthly hope also do very well in these respects. Like anointed ones, they too are living exemplary Christian lives. For that matter, Samson and others of pre-Christian times had God’s spirit and were filled with zeal and understanding. Yet, none of that ‘great cloud of witnesses’ had the heavenly hope

Yes, but playing devil's advocate, how do you explain those so-called miracles where she'd go into a trance and able-bodied men would attempt to move her out of her place? Apparently that was one of the many evidences of her divine calling.

My impression is, from attending and listening to various churches to find out

what they believed, that most main stream evangelical Christians,

and not so mainstream, all seem to believe that everybody is annointed

with Holy Spirit, just because they are believers,

that the simple act of belief makes them annointed.

Only the JW's have the idea that being annointed is for

some special group leadership only. Its not the same meaning.

Many other religions believe they get annointed every time they get together,

in a group, and especially when they take communion, symbolizing oneness.

It very much seems to be about oneness, with each other and with God.

The word takes on a different meaning as used by the WT and Kingdom Hallers,

JW's seem to think its some magical and frightening "claim" of being "set apart"

as opposed to being united in one body. The JW view is; that to "claim"

to be annointed is associated not with blessing and unity but with

    claiming a grandiose station you don't qualify for. Grandiose meaning;

an unrealistic sense of superiority, (therefore insanity)

Its more of the same, the WT is a theology of disempowerment.

The JW theology is not a spiritual mindset and that is seen by

how little they love other people.

Great quotes from the literature, Wt. literature is the best source for popping the bubble hands down.

Back in the early 1960s we had two prominent Anointed Brothers who would be invited to give talks at our KH, one was a real Billy Sunday type orator with thunderous voice and great acting skills, old Lyle would call down the wrath of God on the Churches. The other was an old Greek brother, a large group of Greek JWs came to the LA area some time around WWII. He could give a 15-30 minute prayer so you had to call on him sparingly. He gave the prayer for our new KH and half the audience had to sit down it went on so long. We had a Olive tree in our front yard and every year old Chris would come over and harvest the olives and in a month or so we would get a big jar of cured olives. Chris and our PO would run the kitchen at our conventions (this is back when we served 3 full meals a day) and the best part was when the food fights would start in the kitchen usually by devilish old Chris.

I come from an adventist background and most if not all events about Ellen White are fake. Ive never believed her as supernatural or haveing the 'gift of prophecy and I have had many arguements with ministers in the past. She had one vision where she saw the planets in our solar system described them and the number of moons they had. It so happened the planets had the exact number of moons they had at that time discovered but the information is currently outdated. Did God know how many moons around jupitor or did he only know the number of moons there because the telescopes on earth are not powerful enough?

Ellen white got all her information out of books that were currently available at that time.

The theological truth that did come out of adventist theology is premillienilism because many of the churches believed at that time in postmillienilism which has since been consigned to the scrapheap.
