Radiotherapy and chemo are highly toxic - that's not news. We don't need tree-hugging, sandal-wearing vegans to tell us that.

Vegan diets - For fucks sake if only it was that simple.

The best treatment is a very sharp knife and a very highly skilled surgeon. Sadly that's not always possible.

My SILs cancer has been in remission for over 7 years and she went through a chemotherapy protocol.

Everyone should eat a healthy diet and have clean water in their communities, its the best you can do.

We just got a notice from the Agriculture Department that next month they are coming on our property (all properties in our rural community) and sparying everyone's citrus for some exotic bug that is in the area. Grrrrr Pesticides which are usually some variation of nerve gas are bad news on our health.

Let me preface my comment by saying this is nothing against you Cofty. Nothing at all.

It's just that I often find such black and white statements, interesting. There was a time I thoughtlessly spewed them out too.

Certainly, to make such statements for all the world to see, we must have invested countless years and many thousands of hours of research and investigation to be able to make such a definitive statement. But, how often is this the case?

The older I get, the more clear it becomes how stupid I am. I don't know shit. Knowing this, my mind seems to effortlessly open and expand. It allows things in to ponder, where before the entry-way – was tighter than a mouses ass sphincter.

    Just say'n.

OK Lamalcool I watched the Chris-beat-cancer video. How much did that remind you of an assembly experience in front of a brain-dead audience who left their critical thinking skills at home?

Chris is an idiot. Worse than that Chris and the people who are exploiting his story are dangerous idiots.

Chris had stage 3 colon cancer. He had an operation to remove it. His oncologist told him his chances of being alive in 5 years was 60% and that he should improve his odds by having adjunctive chemotherapy.

Chris claims his onco was being dishonest - he wasn't. Do a search for prognosis of colon cancer by stage and read the stats for yourself. Actually his onco was being generous. Most studies are closer to 50:50 with adjunctive chemo and 40:60 against without.

Chris decided to refuse the chemo which means his chances of being cured by the operation alone were at least 40%.

Chris started on every bullshit food supplement and vitamin regimen known to woo woo. By the way he also "prayed like mad".

Chris was one of the 40% - lucky him. Now he has a website and he is the star of new age conferences galore.

He can't decide which of his many, many whacky schemes did the trick - maybe it was the praying like mad. One thing Chris is sure about, doctors are bad (apart form the one who removed his tumour presumably)

Edited to add - James, when it comes to the treament options for colon cancer I know what I am speaking about. How much research does it take to know that surgery is more effective than a raw vegan diet?

Please submit your evidence, and a meta-analysis of studies supporting your claim.

Cofty: “How much research does it take to know that surgery is more effective than a raw vegan diet?”

I don't know how much. But to KNOW, does take diligent resaerch.

I'm not saying a vegan diet is the way. I'm just saying that when it comes to life, to everything, it may be beneficial to be open to investigating all horizons and not dumb-down to the most prevalent and popular regimen.

We know so little about life; and especially at the end, what better a place to be open?

I sat and slept next to my father as he died from colon cancer. I'm not a stranger to this subject.

James - I'm sorry to hear about your father. I have stage 3 - waiting to hear if it has become stage 4 - colon cancer.

Studying papers about diganosis and treatment has been an ongoing preoccupation of mine for the past year or so.

Don't assume I don't have an open mind just because I have an active bullshit detector.
