Do You Ever Feel Like You're At A Kingdom Hall Sometimes In This Place?

I think this place has the same quality of attracting an eclectic group, of attracting a group of people who would not normally meet or converse.

For that reason it is sometimes difficult to get on, and cultural, educational, orientational differences etc make for mis-understandings, often exacerbated by not being able to convey nuances when typing on a page rather than talking face to face.

The big difference between here and the K.H is that we can call a Bulls***er what he/she is, we can make people explain their motives and their reasoning, we can question everything, we can say what we need and want to say, and , the main thing of all, the most important, nobody can bully us.

I just love the variety of people you get on here, I may despair at their opinions or lack of knowledge sometimes, but then I think back to what I was, just a few years ago.

No, this is nothing like a K.H, and the smell here is sweet perfume, unfortunately the sweet perfume only comes from the Ladies present.

    Guys are smelly.

Not really I've never been to a kingdom hall where I could watch porn.

Yes! There is a vocal segment that adores its lack of education. They know more than anyone else in the world. Most of the time I am with people who are similar to me. Mixing with other groups may be good for me. It can be frustrating. Of course, there are some people here who truly know their material. They are articulate and rational.

There are major differences. First, discussion is open. We all have different viewpoints about religion, and I appreciate being able to openly discuss my attitude toward the LIE-ble here without having someone trying to hound me into accepting the "correct(??)" viewpoint. Political correctness is not required--so long as it isn't a direct attack on an individual, it is acceptable.

Also, there is no hounding if I am late or missing here for a short time. No field circus. No going out and wasting gas on hot or cold days, freezing or sweltering while I am wasting time knocking on doors of people that are as likely to have a dog, gun, or can of pepper spray so I can wuss out the instant someone discusses an opposing viewpoint. I also don't get counsel because I am playing "bad" songs on my computer or a small system next to it, for whatever sexual attitude I choose to carry, or for having Christmas decorations up.

Even beyond that, if you do break the rules (which here, unlike at the Kingdumb Hell, are simple and clearly explained at the bottom of each post), the worst you get is banned. There is no shunning, no busting up of family life, no threats of damnation, and no one is going to get banned for discussing something with a banned member on another forum or in person. Try that at the Kingdumb Hell.

" Do you ever feel like you're at a kingdom hall Sometimes in this place ? "

No, not really. When we used to be in congregations we WERE NOT allowed to have different opinions , everybody had to conform to the same opinion ( WT Society only ) and freedom of speech was very limited or not allowed AT ALL. Here- sure we get different personalities and I believe some exiting JW's still have left over within them some of the JW mindset for sure- but that's just because they haven't educated themselves or read enough non-Witness materials to understand that they HAVE a JW personality still. Like reading Steve Hassan's books and other psychology self help books in order to exorcise or rid themselves of snarky or rude JW tendencies.

Everyone does it in their own time. So I just feel it's a lack of informing themselves as some may not even know how to identify JW tendencies they may still exhibit. Just my observations. I mean many of us when we were JW's didn't even realize we were being rude many times. But then we get on the outside looking back and we say " Jesus Christ ! I was like that ??!! " I mean I've done that looking at myself these past 9 years ! It's incredible how much I've changed - and for the better I may add since exiting the Witnesses ! LOL ! So we just need to be patient with some folks. It takes time. Peace out, mr. Flipper

    KH smell?

Someone cleaned the carpet at a Hall I was an elder in. It was damp over night. The next day it smelled of cat's pee. They always did things on the cheap.

The fact that it is an open discussion where we can posts all kinds of topics and our opinions, is the major difference. Sure, people will hate on your opinion. People will dog your topics. However, you'll still be allowed to have an opinion.
