Oubliette - " I thought it was very telling that the talk only addressed the PERCEIVED mishandling of matters within the congregation, but scrupulously avoided even acknowledging any matters that have ACTUALLY been mishandled."
Kind of like a couple years back when they made a public statement to the effect that "hardly any elders have been convicted of child sexual abuse" (paraphrasing, but that''s the gist)...
...completely "forgetting" to mention allegations that didn't lead to convictions because of the flawed two-witness policy, cases that couldn't be pusued in a court of law due to insufficient evidence, elders who were transferred to other congregations to keep it quiet, or the accusations and/or succesful convictions of MSs, pioneers, or regular publishers guilty of sex offenses...
Oops.
The only time I've ever heard more weasel-words was during the Iran-Contra hearings.
