I've read the Quran. Unless someone is actively fighting against Islam, or against Muslims (and taking their land and possessions, etc), they are supposed to live in peace with others. It does become angry toward Jews in parts, but it was also written during a conflict with them. That may explain the contradicting calls to not make peace with the Jews... and Mohammad's original attempts to have the three Abrahamic religions living in peace. Muslims and Jews have lived side by side and in peace for a long time, with various smaller conflicts. We wouldn't even have the current Israel/Palestine conflict (giving greater rise to extremism in Islam) without the interference from members of christianity.
The Quran is much like any other holy writ, and there are contradictions that I read, some that are probably explained through translation errors and context. But like other writings, a person can find what they need to justify their desire for anger/violence/war... or a person can see the calls for peace, for mercy and forgiveness, for endurance and patience until God comes and judges.
Peace,
tammy
