Thanks everyone a lot of really solid advice loved the analogy from humbled. I actually have a head ache today from looking at the computer screen trolling through all available resources I’m a man on a mission. I’m really trying to do this perfectly; I don’t want to mess it up her and my little Nephew s wellbeing are at stake. My mother is also a witness but is not what you would call a diehard she is pretty easy going in fact. A couple of years ago I started finding out all this amazing information on the internet and I read crisis of conscious and was bowled over by what I read , I would never have realised how aspects of the religion are so cruel. By the way my heart goes out to all the people who have lost loved ones over this I am truly sorry that this has happened to you. Any way after finding out this information I tried to relay it to my mother but I rushed in and came on to heavy ,in the end she put the defensives up and now she won’t even listen to me. So that’s why I want to do everything right this time I don’t want to lose. Yes JW FACTS is an amazing resource I particularly found the section on helping someone leave great it settled me down and realised I can’t rush into this one or two bits of information at a time. And if you’re reading this I would just like to say what a brave amazing man you are Paul Grundy you’re a through inspiration of the Fred Franz kind.

Your sisters motherly impulse may be the saving of her. The non celebration of birthdays and christmas is a means to separate witnesses from their peers and is particularly damaging to children. I saw my own children increasingly marginalised from their peers because they did not share in any of their key experiences. Birthdays are important for bonding and also for teaching them sharing with others without expectation of receiving.
Be careful how you guage things with your sister though and if she seems to be getting defensive back off a bit
The witnesses supply enough causes of concern for parents:
Non celebration of holidays
Evening meetings
Stern disapline during meetings with no allowance for a child's age of capabilities
The blood issue
Lack of education
emphasis on service and denying of ability
No sports or out of school activities
Social exclusion

Blues Brother your right she is a devoted mother even more so as she is a loan parent and the father of her child has never even met the boy who is seven now. I think the reason she got into it is she was vulnerable and lonely she has sort of isolated herself , has money problems and I think generally depressed which all resulted in being ripe for the picking for them charmed by all the love bombing and promises of paradise. The child is a really good point to make her see sense but first I think I’ll start on what we talked about the other day i.e. the quotes that the J Witnesses are the only one who will find salvation and the birthday issue I think if I can sow doubt over these two issue s she might just get interested. On the same train of thought my child got a vaccination the other week and when she asked me which one she had received, ashamedly I did not know, I got a big lecture from her that it was disgraceful that I had no idea. To finish my first attempt at talking-to her I think I’ll turn the same analogy back on her about finding out the facts before she gets her son into such I high controlled religion.
