Why should God answer a prayer to get a job while atrocities happen everyday?

I made this exact same point on Facebook. I got a slew of angry messages and I was not just unfriended but blocked by a small number of people.

Here is a meme that pretty much expresses what we are talking about:

But Laverite - God obviously will not answer the sickly ychild dying of Malnutrition because

    1. He is not a Christian so God can't help or listen to his prayerrs

This is pretty much what Job said: Bad things happen to good people. Good things happen to bad people.

It bothered his idea of what God was "about"?

Nothing got resolved, really. What he saw didn't tell him there was no God but it didn't inform him about how God relates to our actions down here.

I don't pray for touchdowns or parking places. I don't pray for a cure for my cancer.

I do pray for love, the ability to keep from freezing up in the face of futility. I do believe we have to love.

That was in the end the big thing Jesus said. Love each other.

That is a huge thing to do, actually.

It is a really huge thing to do. That is why I pray for help with it.

This is just another convenient way for believers to reinforce their faith.

I had a conversation yesterday with my wife a liberal, who seems to think every good thing that happens to her them just has to be Jehovah Obama and every bad thing, she just KNOWS is Satan conservatives.

I've come to the conclusion that a non-omnipotent god would be a lot easier to worship. One who wants to do good all the time, but can't.

Or maybe a "Greatest American Hero" type of God (for all you children of the 80's). somebody who has super-powers but can't quite figure out how to control or use them.

"It is folly for a man to pray to the gods for that which he has the power to obtain by himself" -Epicurus

Prayer seems to be the alternative to actually doing something- at least for the "faithful".
