SARAHSMILE: World war 1 was a horrible war but Jesus made no statement that it was more important to recognize the times of the last days.
This is how I'm interpreting Jesus' words:
MATTHEW 24:
4 And in answer Jesus said to them: “Look out that nobody misleads YOU; 5 for many will come on the basis of my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will mislead many. 6 YOU are going to hear of wars and reports of wars; see that YOU are not terrified. For these things must take place, but the end is not yet.
7 “For nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, "
I am seeing a contrast between "wars and reports of wars" which was to be ignored, and "nations will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom" which is a huge conflict, a world war. This is the first sign to pay attention to. "Wars and reports of wars would be a reference to local conflicts" between individual nations; but nations against nations and kingdoms against kingdoms indicates groups of nations taking sides against each other, and thus a major world war. This is why I say that "generation" that would not pass away before the second coming occurs must begin with a world conflict.
Second, the "end" the Jesus was talking about was not Armageddon, it was the "end of the gentile times" or the "appointed times of the nations." The Jews were focussed on when their own homeland would be returned to them? This occurred on November 30, 1947. This means the "end of the system of things" is not Armageddon in Matthew 24.
Thirdly, the "great tribulation" also is not a reference to Armageddon. This "great tribulation" is completely over before the 2nd coming as verse 29 notes: "Immediately after the tribulation of those days... the sign of the son of man will appear..." Plus this tribulation favors women with no children versus those with small children. This tribulation can be escaped if you watch and flee to the mountains. Nobody can escape in the mountains when Armageddon strikes and women without children are just a vulnerable to being whacked at Armageddon if they are unworthy, and all righteous women with children will be spared. So this "great tribulation", aimed at the "chosen ones" and the "holy ones" is a tribulation directly against the natural Jews that occurs just before they come out of exile. This reference to the "great tribulation" is thus a reference to the Holocaust.
Of passing note, though, the "disgusting thing in a holy place" is symbolically fulfilled with Christians due to the focus of the Nazis against both Jews and JWs. Zech 13:8 prophesied that during this great tribulation 2/3rds of the nation would perish, which it did: six million out of nine million Jews (two-thirds).
The final event would be the 2nd coming, when Christ would arrive and send his angels out to start sealing the elect. When you correct the ancient timeline using the VAT4956, which dates year 37 of Nebuchadnezzar II to 511 BCE, dismising 568 BCE as revised, then 529 BCE dates the fall of Jerusalem. That means the 2nd coming must occur in 1992 rather than 1914. But of note, 1992 is still within a generation of 80 years (Ps. 90:10) from 1914 (1914-1994).
This is the understanding of those directly involved with the 2nd coming in 1992 and the sealing of the elect. The WTS has been waiting for Armageddon before the end of that generation rather than the 2nd coming. Armageddon occurs at an unscheduled time after Satan has been here in the earth for a while after the second coming. But everything prophesied was fulfilled before 1994 that was prophesied by Matthew, including the "great tribulation" which was the Holocaust, and the "end of the system of things" which means the end of the gentile times, which ended on November 30, 1947. By then the "good news" had reached a world-wide audience, proven by NH Knorr's world-wide speaking tour earlier in 1947. His speaking tour directly fulfills the prophecy about the "good news" being preached worldwide just before the end comes.
This is how I'm interpreting and experiencing this. I know there is room for other interpretations; I respect that.
