Bizarre, nonsensical answer from JW.org on their FAQ page...

The answer on the FAQ page makes no sense. The question is: "Why don't you call your meeting place a church?"

The answer makes no sense at all. It begins by saying how a *church* meant a congregation of PEOPLE. A kingdom hall, on the other hand, is a BUILDING.

So it makes more sense (form the weird WT perspective) to call a gathering of people who worship together by the name of a building.

I suppose referring in any way to a gathering of PEOPLE is too crunchy-good-feeling and heartwarming. Can't have that!! After all, their publications don't even call people "people". It is always "ones". Righteous-hearted ones. Meek ones of the earth.... the humble ones who are searching... "These ones" whom Jehovah loves, etc.

Well, you should see the other answers to FAQs. "Are you tolerant of other religions?" is an interesting one...

Typical JW-speak. There is no good reason to not call it a church, other than to be "different", so they just avoid the question. Just saw this one while reading your post...

Are you tolerant of other religions?

Pretty mealy-mouthed, careful replies. I also noticed how very few of these FAQ's are answered in any great detail on this public website.
We all know that in the Pharisee-led WT articles, they then pick apart to the nth detail these very subjects.

And I suspect like their column 'Frequent Questions from Readers' this is just more of the same: Frequent Answers to questions we wish someone (not people) would ask. But since they didn't ask, we feel we need to provide a response just in case. As faithful stewards of the word.

The FAQ section should more accurately be called, "Questions from the Writing Department".

WT has always sought to find ways to separate itself from other Christians- you know, the "not-as-good-as-us" Christians.

"Church" is a more accurate description of a group of people, certainly superior to Kingdom Hall, but if WT used the word "church" the Provincial fence around JWs wouldn't be as high.

"Why don't you call your meeting place a church?"

I don know I guess because we hate all religions and so are loath to call it a church, it sorta like the we don't celibrate birthdays, mother's day, father day, christmas, easter, and all the rest simply because we are no part of the world which we also hate.

The following quote is from their site.

In the Bible, the Greek term that is sometimes translated "church" refers to a group of worshippers...

So when they meet in a Kingdom Hall as a group of worshippers they are, you guessed it... a church. When you talk about the collective group known as Jehovah's Witnesses, whom are a group of worshippers, you would be correct in calling it a church.

The Watchtower writers are so used to spewing nonsense they don't even realize when they contradict themselves.

The reason why they do not call it a church is because they do not want to look the same as other religions.

The same with the "cross"... they take a pole instead...

The same with "new world order" ... they call it "new system" now ... but if some other organisations start to use it too much they will change that as well...

This makes perfect sense. After all, it is Bible-Based(tm). Are you not aware

of Jesus' words where he said, "Whenever two or more buildings are gathered

together in my name, there I will be also."

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
