Yes, you get a counter near your username just like on a phone. I think it stands out enough (but i can experiment with little popups within the page if not)

I must be missing something.
When I hit the link you provided I get a graph showing your personal posting history. It looks like this:
When I back up to the home page I get this:
I don’t seem to be seeing what other folks are seeing.
Where are the last three posts folks are talking about? Where are the avatars folks are talking about?

Yes, it looks like the avatars and some other styles aren't loading 100% Marvin - let me reset things and if you do a hard refresh (Ctrl + F5 / Shift + F5) hopefully things will appear.
This is why it's not live yet

I have no idea. Later today I’ll get one of my engineers to let me know. They load the stuff and I use it. They get pretty miffed at me for resisting attempts to update my private systems. Once something’s working for me, I don’t want it changed. For my private systems that works, at least for a while. Eventually I have to learn new computer gadgetry. I feel like it’s a waste of my time. I don’t understand why IT folks can’t make systems work so that folks working in a different branch of knowledge don’t have to spend their valuable time learning someone’s work outside their chosen field! Alas! Apparently that is life.
If I had my choice there’d be a finger dialing wheel on my mobile phone! Better yet… an operator would ask me who I want to connect to when I pick up my receiver! Them days are gone, unfortunately.
Almost forgot. I refreshed my screen and got the same thing I show above. I’ll let you know later today what browser I’m working with.

Going off the 'square' boxes it would appear to be IE 6 (possibly 7). Stupid browser never support things properly. You can check by pressing Alt and then clicking Help / About on the menu.
Unfortunately, these older IE browsers have so low market share and take up so much time and energy to make compatible that it's difficult to justify spending too much time on compatibility so it is likely to be more a case of "it works if it works or if it's something minor / quick to fix" as I don't have the resources like Microsoft or Google do.
Actually, even they don't support IE 6 for their products either now so I don't think that's too unreasonable.
