Glander - "Having said that, there are many cults that have imploded so I still have hope in my soul."

A while back, a branch of the Canadian government published a report of the phases that extremist groups go through on the way to becoming dangerous.

Step one - in every single case - was withdrawal to a rural area due to feeling increasingly disenfranchised and marginilized by society.

Now, while I have a hard time imagining the WTS eventually becoming involved in overt criminal activites, the first time I heard about Warwick, this report immediately came to mind.

So here we have a 130+ year old organization that used a clever marketing ploy of requiring members to devote themselves free of charge to selling the printed propaganda of the printing enterprise.

This has been a primary source of income for the corporation, now with the instant access via the internet and the lessening need for printed material and door to door salesmen of such material they are in a restructuring mode with downsizing in the process, selling buildings, giving old timers who devoted their best years to the corporation the boot and putting the burden on the local congregations.

To survive there needs to be some serious restructuring and a coming to terms with reality no matter how unpleasent, to stay in denial and keep up wishful thinking may have worked in the earlier years(pre-internet) but it is a whole new ball game today with all this availible information at our fingertips. But alas dinosaurs running this corporation are hard pressed for a workable and sustainable solution to their present predicament, so the best they can do is denigerate education and encourage a head in the sand mentality by extreme denial.

Just FYI, dinosaurs were tremendously successful; they dominated the planet for 250 million years. It took a giant f**king rock from outer space to finally bring 'em down.

    Just sayin'.

    Other than that, spot on.

    Vid,

Well maybe we can liken the internet to the big rock from space that wiped them out.

It was a long time ago; I've tried to find it a couple times over the years with no success.

If I remember right, it was linked in an op-ed piece written by liberal blogger Sara Robinson not long after that whole FLDS thing...

On the subject of wishful thinking which the Governing Body seem to be heavily immersed in and very unconscious of not to mention is a very poor way to run a corporation as the outcome through out history seems to bare out. I'm thinking that the Governing Body are entering the "nightmare stage" or have already entered it. Now because they have used a delusion caused by wishful thinking(bible interpetation) they are frustrated, they are trying ever harder to stay in this delusion using all sorts of mind tricks, plays on words and meanings, cherry picking facts, confirmation bias, and desparate magical thinking. This puts them in a very tuff position to make any real good decisions with their mind all muddled up, just look at the crap they are publishing for evidence of this.

I'm thinking they are going to make lots of very serious errors in the future that will be very harmful to the ecconomic future of the corporation, as they over compensate and over react to the pressures of keeping the delusion alive in their mind.

“the fantasy cycle” ... a pattern that recurs in personal lives, in politics, in history – and in storytelling. When we embark on a course of action which is unconsciously driven by wishful thinking, all may seem to go well for a time, in what may be called the “dream stage”. But because this make-believe can never be reconciled with reality, it leads to a “frustration stage” as things start to go wrong, prompting a more determined effort to keep the fantasy in being. As reality presses in, it leads to a “nightmare stage” as everything goes wrong, culminating in an “explosion into reality”, when the fantasy finally falls apart.

I am loving that little treatise on wishful thinking Frank. The speed of unravelling can be dramatic. Consider the Soviet block, a solid reality for decades and then gone, just like that.

Enron took the world's biggest accountants Anderson's down in weeks both apparently as solid as rock. Consider also the financial institutions thatdissapeared over night in 2008. Even the twin towers, dust in seconds. No one would have considered any of these events remotely possible until they happened.

    If only..........
