This is part of the video appendix for the series of When Ancient Jerusalem was Destroyed. Appendix 7a primarily covers Line 1-4 of VAT 4956. Hopefully, this will be followed by 7b and 7c that reviews the rest. Later, in the main series, I hope to have more about astronomical diaries and what VAT 4956 is in general, but this is more of a detailed breakdown of how the diary points to the year 568 BC as Nebuchadnezzar’s 37th year, thus making his 18th year, when he destroyed Jerusalem, 587 BC.

If anyone sees any errors let me know. Yes, I realize in retrospect, I still mispronounce Babylonians. Sorry!

If you’ve tips for people in general to share about VAT 4956, drop a comment.

Yep, I've been wondering where he's gotten off to. So far, I've breathed a sigh of relief he hasn't filled the Youtube comments with long tirades about the Second Coming in 1992.

The footnote in the article in The Watchtower (15 November 2011) claims, "the cuneiform signs for many of the planeteray positions are open to speculation and to several interpretations".

This raises the question, Are any of the planets located in 'the Swallow' for their required date in 588 BCE?

    Excellent video!

Here is the original German article about VAT 4956:

Neugebauer, Paul Victor, 1878-?; Weidner, Ernst F. (Ernst Friedrich), 1891-?,
"Ein astronomischer Beobachtungstext aus dem 37. Jahre Nebukadnezars II. (-567/66); Sitzung vom 1. Mai 1915. [Von] Paul V. Neugebauer und Ernst F. Weidner (1915)"

And here it is translated into English by JWN's own Ann O'Maly.

"Ein astronomischer Beobachtungstext aus dem 37. Jahre Nebukadnezars II (-567/66), Paul V. Neugebauer and Ernst F. Weidner (1915), English translation (2011)"

I have no idea what VAT4956 means, I do recall Lars, going on about it.

VAT 4956 is a Babylonian cuneiform tablet (an astronomical diary) housed in a museum in Berlin, indicating the relative positions of various astronomical bodies in the 37th year of Nebuchadnezzar II. (VAT = Vorderasiatische Abteilung Tontafeln = "Department of Near Eastern clay tablets" )

I do recall Lars, going on about it.

    Sorry to hear that.

Good stuff, if you want to be taken seriously though you'll need to work on your verbiage just like i need to work on my spelling. With this information and the records from that trading family can't remember their name it will be impossible for the Watchtower to dispute the record unless they lie. And of course we know they never lie. lol
