Thank you for bringing this up, I've been thinking about this -- how it will affect the Witnesses -- for some time. Now, doesn't the WTS teach that an eighth king is supposed to follow the Anglo-American world power for a brief time? They've taught in the past that this is the UN, but I can't help but wonder if they are going to reveal some new light to the effect that China is the last king, to buy some time for themselves. Especially since China is a "godless" country, there might be a basis for insinuating that this last king will bring the great tribulation.

They're going to have to pull a hard-right to fix their last statement there in the future, but I still think they have a little wiggle room to at least keep some of the R&F in their seats. There will definitely be fallout, however.

Back in the 1950's, the Watchtower wrote in one of its books that the Communist bloc would be around to oppress God's people right down until the Great Tribulation. (I think the book was called "Let Your Kingdom Come".)
However right around 1989, the Communist bloc melted into the fuzzy annals of history.
The Watchtower is just plain awful at foretelling world history. Their "King of the North/King of the South" nonsense only further shows they have been just making wild guesses all along. -

Just because China's economy may surpass the USA's it does not mean that its global influence will surpass the US. The US has a global banking cartel in the World bank and the IMF, they influence financial over the world in other ways as well. A large part of the China's economy is US companies having china's labor build it for them to then sell elsewhere. Also militarily china is way behind and lets not forget the control of oil which the US still has.

China is steadily removing the US dollar from reserve status around the world by signing bilateral trade agreements that exclude the dollar.
Military? They have enough nuclear missiles to fend off anyone foolish enough to attack. That's all they need and all they have needed to grow dramatically.
This week it was announced that the yuan joined the top ten most traded currencies. This week it was announced that China helped put together a rival to the IMF with $100 billion funding. They are carefully building an international structure with the BRIC nations and the 3rd world - in which high growth can take place - unlike Europe or Japan. China is buying up enormous amounts of gold and this month, took action against the JP Morgan for corruption - after taking action against US drug companies in China for corruption last month.
NASA scientists are discouraged by the projected decline of the US space program - while China is projecting a moon exploration shot, its own space station and possibly a manned mission to the moon.
They aren't playing....They are dead serious and not distracted by foolish military adventures in the Middle East.

The 2012 District Convention special talk made it clear that WT no longer teaches that another world power will rise up. What exists now is the end of it.

The front page of the UK 'newspaper' The Sun last Saturday made me laugh:
If the 'special relationship' AKA the anglo american world power went, then that's a huge chunk of JW prophecy gone.

I would LOVE to see how the WT writers squirm their way out of that.. In most of our lifetimes we will see the US crumble spectacularly. Personally I don't look forward to it, based on how it will affect the world economy for a while. Many Americans still deny that they are screwed... They can't imagine their beloved country falling apart.
