Cults are known to sugar coat their beliefs. If you told a new return visit, "Hey, become a JW! No more birthdays, Christmas, voting, Father's day, Mother's Day, national holidays, and while you're at it, most of your music and video collection and hobbies, and cherished cultural traditions, but you have to come to two meetings a week, travel long distances to stumble around a convention centre in your Sunday best uncomfortable clothes, OH and if you have kids and they decide not to believe the same thing, you must pretend they're dead, and if they do believe but get in a car accident, well they will bleed to death if they get a ruptured spleen because you can't let the doctors give them blood. Oh and you have to drop all your friends too and only hang with JWs because your friends and family and all the little babies in the world are going to be killed by God, but not you, not as long as you don't masturbate or question the organisation in any way once you're baptised. That and, you will have to pretty much buy two whole wardrobes, and that's before you walk up to the doors of complete strangers and sugarcoat all the stuff I've just told you."

Yep, gonna win a lot of converts. That's why it's a gradual indoctrination.

I have heard many former members of others churches say they learned more from the WT than in 40 years as a ??

They are just LAZY- mentally LAZY. All the teachings of for instance the Catholics are down in print, as are those of any other denomination.

You have to get off your fat lazy backside switch off the tv and READ.

Once they learn the basics of dubdumb, which are about as hard to understand as an ad for Cheerios, they switch the tv on and sit drooling until they die, not really understanding the WT crap any better.

it is the lazy people who get sucked into the cult, because they cant be bothered to find out for themselves about the WT. LEt someone else think for them.

With a little gentle "help" they sure know how to stitch themselves up!

I bet he will do his darndest to get the big A story straight for the next time you meet. Now that's a video that belongs on YouTube.

He's been pointed to TATT in such a way that trying to escape is going to torture him.

Maybe we should preemptively welcome him on JWN.

    Awesome poppers!

Thank you Poppers for taking the time to question this lost soul. He is somebody's relative, maybe someone you've talked to on here. The point is we should be concerned with all JW's we run accross. They may not be our loved one, but they are most likely someone's loved one.

Many people interacting with JW's feel they are learning and hearing things they have never heard before, they also have a huge and dangerous assumption that everything they are being told is true.

Why would a religious organisation full of 'normal' peolple lie or twist the truth? Surely those normal people have checked all these 'facts' out in their life time of being a witness and they have never found the religion go be wrong or lying.

the watchtower give just enough information to convince an argument, too little information for it to be independantly checked by a reader and always write it amongst a pile of similarly ill referenced 'facts' to complicate the issue and give the impression they hold the overwhelming evidence. Having been forced to read scientific papers and undergo training in critical appraisal, reading WT literature now, infuriates me. It is so obvious that the writers know what they are doing as they attempt to conceal the dishonesty of what they write whenever they knowingly lie or misquote an author.

In reality there are many cases where each and every 'fact' is a misqotation out of context or an outdated view. I remember researching the flood and Noah's ark. From memory, one reference to a biologist turned out to be 150 years old (number of species to kinds). A lot of the 'facts' they teach about blood are referenced to the 1980's medical literature, even on their website now. (That is irresponsible and immoral, it is a reference to the dangers of blood, somewhat different 30 years later.)

someone here wrote that these people are lazy and they are. We were brought up on it, via a system of 'believe the borg or else' and it works well. The ministry of WT only works with people not willing to check out the real data. Most people do, most people close their doors or throw away the magazine. Our world is far too connected to information now, hence the false attempts at honesty such as the references in the new evolution literature. Laughable in their dishonesty and out of context use. Someone even wrote a huge document outlying all the dishonesty By showing original quotes and quotes used. When you realise how dishonest they must be to now add references TO APPEAR transparent yet be as unscrupulous as usual. Who would do that and why? Most people ask that question, maybe even take a peek at their finances and walk away. Some don't.... Some are looking for something because they need something, and the WT seems like a nice easy and friendly safe bet.......
