I might agree with you that the WT has missed the meaning of the scripture or is misusing it, but a quick check of BibleHub's interlinear shows the word in question to be "kyrios": http://biblehub.com/interlinear/2_thessalonians/2-2.htm
However, I agree that "kyrios" is supposed to be Christ, not Jehovah.

PLH - great post. Interesting observation. I'm fascinated by the adding of Jehovah instead of Christ. I'd love to know if it was intentional or a stupid mistake. If intentional, I'd love to know why the did it. But, that's something I will never know haha. Happy Friday.

Hi everyone. I had a sickening feeling followed by a panick attack, followed by some self destructive behavior that is brought on by stress, all from reading these articles. The longer I ignore the WTBTS's writings the better I am. This morning, when I read that paragraph again, I was more calm and read it in context. So Poindexter is right on. Paul was not trying to incite fear or panick about the Lord's day. In fact he was saying that we should be wary of those who believe they know when the Lord's day will arrive. The Lord said it would come as a thief, and none could know the day or the hour. For anyone to claim otherwise is apostasy.
When I read a scripture, this is what goes on in my head, it's something that most JWs never do.
Full verse content 2 Thess 2:1-4:
“2 However, brothers,[ 1st century Christians sharing the same hope ] respecting the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to him[ gathered where? Heaven ], we request of YOU 2 not to be quickly shaken from YOUR reason nor to be excited either through an inspired expression [ an expression from someone claiming to have the inside track ] or through a verbal message [ a talk or pronouncement ] or through a letter as though from us,[ an official letter from those claiming inside knowledge of the time of the Lord's day. a letter from men claiming to be like the apostles and Jesus' closet disciples] to the effect that the day of Jehovah is here. 3 Let no one seduce YOU in any manner, because it will not come unless the apostasy [ Apostasy is contradicting Christ's teaching as presented to those living at that time in any way,i.e " the resurrection has not occured." ] comes first and the man of lawlessness [ those doing these very things ] gets revealed, the son of destruction. 4 He is set in opposition [ because he is knowingly contradicting Christ's teachings ] and lifts himself up over everyone who is called “god” or an object of reverence, [ Only the GB of the Watchtower speak for God ] so that he sits down in the temple of The God, publicly showing himself to be a god."
Here is a link to Cedars article about these magazine. It's nice to keep all these different posts linked. It makes it easier for newbies to find them.

Apognophos,
Thanks for the clarification.

Comatose,
Although I believe Jehovah's name is mentioned alot in the Hebrew Scriptures, I do not believe his explicit name is ever included in the original Greek Scriptures (New Testament). Therefore, it's possible that the NWT translates Christ's name with this same approach (mentioned above in 2 Thess. chapter 2) throughout the New Testament.
Anybody want to add to/clarify this point?

Great point! Interestingly, I bet if we did a "CTRL+F" in the new December Watchtower apostate article and replaced "Apostate" with "WBTS," the article would finally be accurate.

I don't have the exact info at hand, but out of the hundreds of times the Society placed "Jehovah" into their NWT's New Testament, a number of them were based on the fact that the scriptures were quoting the OT and had used "YHWH" in those places. Those changes are not considered controversial by some scholars. A further number of insertions of "Jehovah" are completely specious (and your example is one them), and that is, to my knowledge, the biggest source of controversy with the NWT, since of course they change the meaning of the verses.

It's interesting that they tell JWs "not to be quickly shaken from your reason" after repeating the same interpretations for years and years, but then all of a sudden, they publish a bunch of doctrinal reversals in the July 15, 2013 Watchtower, expecting everyone to just say "Oh okay, so let's believe this now. No problem."

prologos: Yes. "Real Estate Apostate" appears to be the most accurate rendering of the Billion Dollar real estate tycoon known as the WBTS LOL! Poindexter Lionel Humperdique The mention of the "Real Estate Apostates" was something of an interest. It caught my attention. I have never read about ealy christians being involved into real estate development.
