If any of us were to live in a 'society' where everYthing was provided for us and no one to answer to which one of us would need money?, also, I do honestly believe the GB know exactly what they are doing, they have to be aware of all thats going on to be able to keep control. Now they are the ones that give to everyone else and if they make mistakes they can blame it on the rank and file for 'taking it the wrong way', I honestly believe that they know exactly what they are doing, they also know well the truth of all the things they have been shown to have been involved in, the UN etc. To tell the rank and file not to look for information other than what JW .org churns out, obviously shows in itself that they are totaly aware of the information thats out there. The GB are gods in their own world.
What's in it for them? (GB)

Vangogh, YES, you describe what i was thinking, absolutely. They would not be so emphatic and frantic for people to stay away from other sources and opinions if they didn't have so much to cover up.

syntaxerror1974 - "I can't grasp the INCENTIVE For the GB to make this stuff up?
The current GB didn't really "make this stuff up"; they inherited it from their predecessors in general and Fred Franz in particular, and are thusly kinda stuck with it.
syntaxerror1974 - "Do they believe this stuff themselves?
That's a point of contention here at JWN.
Considering that they've described in the publications the ins-and-outs of propaganda and how it works, yet clearly use it themselves, one can't help but wonder if they're just cynically manipulative.
On the other hand, however, almost all the insider info we've received strongly suggests that the members of the GB really are full-on True Believers (TM), and what's more, a lot of their decisions sure seem to reinforce that.
Whatever they get out of it, one thing's for sure; without the WTS, the men on the GB are - for all intents and purposes - nothing.
And that's a big incentive to perpetuate the system.

Welcome Syntax, throughout the years people have wondered the same thing about the GB. BOC said it's complicated and I agree. These ordinary men with only basic education were mostly born-in. As one myself, I can say that you grow up believing in "the truth" the same way you believe the earth is round. For at least six decades the WTBTS has stressed social association ONLY with believers . "Keeping seperate from the world" distorts a persons view of everything. So in the beginning the GB members no doubt were true believers who liked attention and wanted to be promoted to "serve". However, with power comes glory-intoxicating! Once on the "OPIUM" there is no motivation to change or leave even when it comes to their attention that a particular doctrine or policy is wrong. The organization must be preserved at all costs-and it is! The present GB have a visual aid of what happens when a member disagrees with the majority-Ray Franz. Who of them wants to be kicked to the curb at this later point in their lives. Go along with the program and prosper. A no-brainer.

hi Syntax, welcome.
As pointed out by others, the GB members have NO QUALIFICATIONS to act as a CEO or any high level executive position in any legitimate large scale corporation. Those mega-million dollar jobs you mention aren't even a remote possibility for them and they know it.
That being the case, they ARE cashing in COMPARED TO HOW THEY WOULD BE LIVING IF THEY WERE NOT PART OF THE GB. They are SET FOR LIFE, which they most certainly would not be apart from their GB gig. Controlling the lives of millions of people is just gravy.I recommend reading Crisis of Conscience by [former GB member] Raymond Franz. He does a great job of pulling back the curtain on the governing body.

they would be unemployable in the real world....and yes, crisis of conscience by Raymond Franz is definitely recommended for anyone seeking an honest insight into the shambles that is the gb.....

arent they simply trapped in a world of their own making--after all--where else would they go--?
or are they just self-deluded puppets held in place by a hidden "layer" of power with real access to all the money-?

If this is all a sham, someone on top must know. It's not the elders. They are blindly following. My dad is an elder, so I know. So then, who knows this is a scam? Who profits from it? I these guys (the GB) are nothing than snake oil salesmen, couldn't they make more money in other ventures? Take a salarie? Live in a mansion ? How do they cash out? A CEO makes a ton of money, and has something to leave his children as inheritance. What do they get?
Either they are scamming us and secretly raking in money. Or they believe it. Otherwise, why do it?
The problem with the WTBTS is that there is no transparency. We have no idea how much cash they do or do not have. Their actions in recent years indicate they may be cash poor, with the selling off of Brooklyn and the reduction in printing magazines. Are they settling pedophile lawsuits out of court for millions? Who knows. We all know how much they spend on charity work each year - $0.00
Its a hell of a scam they have running, as publishes "think" everything is on the up and up because the local congo puts the silly accounts report up on the board each month. The rank and file never even think about how much money goes to Brooklyn every year, and they obviously want it that way.
The simple fact that the books are hidden from public view is enough for me to know there is something going on that they don't want known to anyone else.
