An example on how the WT gets things out of proportion.

This is all we know about Dinah's "friends" from the Bible:

"And Dinah the daughter of Leah, which she bare unto Jacob, went out to see the daughters of the land " (Ge 34:1).

    WT conclusion:

"DO YOU see who Di′nah is going to visit? She is going to see some of the girls who live in the land of Ca′naan. Would her father Jacob be happy about this? [...] How did all this trouble get started? It was because Di′nah made friends with people who did not obey God’s laws. We will not want to make such friends, will we?" (my story 20)

Well I suppose the WT is the only entitled to speculate...

How dare you make friends with sinners and tax collectors, they don't obey God's laws and he is therefore very unhappy with you for befriending them! (Luke 15)

    Also: Victim blaming much?

You're right Laika, they are blaming the victim with their argument.

As a child I was taught the story from that book, and even thought there were three friends, then the dvd drama enforced that idea, but if you just read the Bible you get the correct picture... not the WT picture

What I can't figure out from the account is was the sex between Dinah and Shechem consensual or was it rape?

Hmmm, can't quote the exact scriptures, but Jesus was quite the friendly fellow if I'm not mistaken, what do the old farts in Brooklyn have to say about him showing friendship and compassion to just about EVERYONE that crossed his path?

I could never understand why Dinah would go over to another tribed to get raped. There were laws about being raped within the Jweish system of things, right? So does that not mean that since there were laws about rape that it must have been more than a infrequent experience.

    Genesis Chapter 34.

This is a horrible story. You might even call it demonic. If this was a movie, The Governing Body would ban it because of its violence, sexual content, treachery and horror.

Instead, the WatchTower puts this story into My Book of Bible Stories as a lesson for little children.

    Sick.

This whole story is mentally deranged.

    hoser:

I know what you mean about the question of whether it was consentual or rape.

I got the sense it was consentual, but because of who she was, maybe she was not considered to have been able to give consent. So, her brothers went on their massacre, after getting all the men sore and laid up, and thus Dinah's whole tribe was panned.

may be she was under 18 and could not give consent.
