It was totally vacuous. Despite the promise of "new light" in the opening talk there was nothing.

A few of the more clumsy phrases in the NWT have been improved, and it has a nice new grey cover - so what?

I am thinking about the JWs who have spent a lifetime waiting on paradise. 2014 is only a couple of months away. There must have been an expectation that this was going to be a significant moment. After the contrived excitment has worn off there must be a growing sense of feeling let down.

I see there are lots of impressionable JWs who are hysterical about it all, but I wonder if there aren't many more who are hugely disappointed.

Sometimes the bigger the high, the deeper the low that follows. I reckon it might be like that for many JWs Following this meeting. Plus a new Bible is going to be pretty disorientating for some oldtime Witnesses. To be familiar with particular phrases (like the background noise to your life) for decades on end, and then for them to be blotted out overnight, must be pretty disturbing on some level.

Not to mention, as you say, the brutal fact that in 2013(!) the end is still nowhere in sight. The appointed time "keeps panting on to the end is rushing toward its end", they will wearily tell themselves.

A few I know described it as 'EPIC' on Facebook, and other such ridiculous words for just another meeting....

That's precisely the point: issue vague statements about the need for digilence every now and then to create a sense of something urgent going on (eg "even if it seems impractical by human logic", or whatever it was they said), then delivering a revised Bible that allows the Society to tighten its grip and snoop on the sex lives of their members (eg say goodbye to oral sex being a conscience matter, fellas, thanks to a slight rewording of 1st Corinthians 6:9; then expect no mercy when they DF you for it, thanks to dropping John 8).

And what happens?

The rank-and-file react giddily, acting like they've just been handed SOOO MANY MORE blessings from Jehovah, since it gives them confirmation that this MUST be "The Truth". NO group of MERE mortals could just make this kind of stuff up, right?

We have a new bible! Jehovah is really speeding up the work. The end is soooo close! And the governing body, oh! Ah! They are SUCH good speakers! So humble! Loesch is SOOO nice!
