So do jws really donate anonymously in large amounts for the publications? My husband handled the accounts and never saw that. In fact he knew how much of each publication came in each month and compared it to the donations. The amount was picayune. These are not pre-1990 days, if no human knows what they are doing.....

I too wonder how much money they can make off publications any more. I handled accounts for two different congregations from around 2004-2008 and the donations to the worldwide work were very low. I remember thinking that it probably didn't even cover the printing cost of the literature used by the congregation. I suspect that a large number of JWs never donate anything or at most put in a few bucks here and there. Can't really speak to assemblies and conventions. Maybe people donate more when they get all jazzed up about a new release.

Interesting. Thanks Randy.
There are close to 8 million publishers. If only 3.5 million donate, and put in $20 each month on average, the society will still pull in over $800 million per year.

Few JWs are generous in their donations; it's not so much that they won't give, but more they cannot given their generally limited incomes.
- The lower the education, the lower the salary earning power. Simple as that.
Besides, since the move from each publication having an exact Price" of purchase to asking for a donation, profits would have plummeted.
There is as yet a compelling argument that the New NWT will be a cash cow.

You know what... This is excellent Wake-Up Information!! Let's keep this thread alive and at the top!
...
To any JWs watching and reading here, please know this:
We know how you must be feeling so bad about being at a website like this, yet inside you are somehow questioning and not wanting to question... Relax right now.
(Your computer won't explode, -- reassuring smile) -- all you are doing is asking a question. Right? Isn't that how one gains knowledge, finds truth?
No, I'm not Satan whispering from a tree. I am a sister, a sister who had questions too, when some things just didn't seem to add up or make sense. So I questioned. Very reluctantly and with huge amounts of guilt and fear... Aways remembering "where else could I go?? This is the truth." .... Isn't it? And so you feel frightened. Maybe you will run away right now because you recognize these feelings and thoughts and fear that satan is getting to you.
If so, that is fine... no worries. Keep seeking Jehovahs glory, his strength, his will, all the very good and wonderful things which do come out of "this organization".... And there are many good things. If you wish, drop by again to visit when you feel more comfortable or when another burning question or doubt comes up into your heart, because really, as a thinking person, you do require answers. Or explanations. Or just to reassure yourself and confirm your faith.
But if you think there just might, might be something strange about the Org lately or the GB are sure elevating themselves above everybody else lately... then maybe you need to hear more ...
You may be wondering if this is really the type of truth which Jesus taught, and is this really how people should live and believe and behave if they are true Christians...? What does the bible say? Yes, it should all go back to the Bible, shouldn't it? The real question is... Does it?
much love,
Muddy
(Muddy Waters, actually... Chose that name when I first start questioning things, when the clear, clean, sparkling waters of "truth" began to feel so confused, so non-sensical, so ever-changing. It was a totally confusing time, but did, and does, get better!!)
(sorry, just edited this to make more sense, my iPad takes great liberty with the words I'm trying to type, lol!)

I can clearly recall when the green Bible was released!
It was THE big deal. Center of all conversations.
We couldn't wait to deliver them fresh baked to the door of our hungry neighbors.
The price is what really sold it.
The green color put people off. I think that was a mis-step.

Terry, as much as I don't want to, I am sure I will be reading your book soon. I am a sucker for sad tales. Just one question, is there a happy ending? I had sad endings.
In regards to $$$ and the new bible. I just don't see the rank and file donating much. It is interesting that they released this at the annual meeting instead at a convention. Perhaps they want to contro the release and potential donations at the congregation level. I'll bet there will be more than a few official letters read in preparation for the local release.

I was informed years ago that the green cover was used so the price could be only $1.00.
At the time the society was able to buy a very large supply of the green vinyl cover material for a bargain price, so this is why the Bibles were green.
Years later when the supply of green vinyl ran out they switched to the black cover.

When I was still in we sometimes had the PO stating that normally these books cost a lot if you have to buy them in a store and that was WORLDY literature... how happy and full of joy we should be and we should absolutely show it by donating! He would even stated the amount that certain books would cost in the stores. Now if I hear the figures of manufacturing these books it is big money flooting in (1$ vs 50$)... boomshakalaka
