Alternative Daily Text for Thursday, December 5, 2013

“If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God.” (1 John 4:15, NIV)

Who was the apostle John talking about? Shortly after Jesus’ baptism, “the devil took him to the Holy City and … told Jesus, ‘Since you are the Son of God, throw yourself down.’” (Matthew 4:5, 6, ISV) Jesus later cured the sick in Capernaum, so that “demons also came out of many, crying out and saying: ‘You are the Son of God.’” (Luke 4:41) Almost 2000 years after these events, Pope Francis confirmed “that Jesus is the Son of God” in a letter to “Eugenio Scalfari … and non-believers.” –Zenit.org.

Satan, the demons, and the pope acknowledged that Jesus is the Son of God. And the Bible’s statement is clear: “Whoever acknowledges that Jesus is God’s Son, God remains in union with such one and he in union with God.” (1 John 4:15) “If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God.” (NIV) Hence, God is in Satan, God is in the demons, and God is in the pope. Satan, the demons and the pope are “in God”, and they all are “in union.” Is that not wonderful?

    http://dailytext2.wordpress.com/2013/12/06/he-drives-like-a-madman/

Alternative Daily Text for Friday, December 6, 2013

“He drives like a madman.” (2 Kings 9:20)

Readers of the Bible know of “Jehu’s reputation as a furious chariot driver.” (The Watchtower, August 1, 2005, page 11) Since “Jehu foreshadowed … Jesus Christ,” we as Christians “must keep imitating Jehu.” (The Watchtower, March 1, 1985, page 14; April 1, 1969, page 205) Thus, if we own a car, we should use it in harmony with God’s will.

“Jehu had a reputation for driving his chariot furiously.” (The Watchtower, January 1, 1998, page 13) “Why not think about your vehicle, [and] your driving habits?” (“Keep Yourselves in God’s Love”, page 80) As disciples “of the Greater Jehu, Jesus Christ,” it is our obligation to drive “like a maniac” too. (2 Kings 9:20, NIV; The Watchtower, January 1, 1998, page 17) In some countries we may be “pursued by the police” because of that, but many Christians have faced such persecution. (Jehovah’s Witnesses – Proclaimers of God’s Kingdom, page 184) After all, “we must obey God as ruler rather than men.” – Acts 5:29.

    http://dailytext2.wordpress.com/2013/12/07/all-of-this-befell-king-nebuchadnezzar/

Alternative Daily Text for Saturday, December 7, 2013

“All of this befell King Nebuchadnezzar.” (Daniel 4:28)

Some 2,600 ago, King Nebuchadnezzar conquered Jerusalem. He “slaughtered [King] Zedekiah’s sons before his eyes, and he also slaughtered all the princes.” (Jeremiah 52:10) Then “the Jews [were] deported as slaves from Jerusalem to Babylon.” (Awake!, July 8, 1994, page 27) Do these events have a meaning for our time?

Definitely, for “Nebuchadnezzar’s work … pictured the work of Jesus Christ during this ‘time of the end,’ where we are now.” (The Watchtower, May 15, 1980, page 17) Who, therefor, will soon “be destroyed by one greater than Nebuchadnezzar, the now reigning heavenly King, Jesus Christ?” (The Watchtower, March 1, 1980, page 21) Following Nebuchadnezzar’s example, Jesus will ‘slaughter the king’s sons’ in the first instance. Certainly the king today is not Zedekiah, because Jehovah’s Witnesses have been preaching “the good news that Jehovah had become King” since 1914. (Isaiah’s Prophecy – Light for All Mankind, volume II, page 187) Thus ‘the king’s sons’ to be slaughtered by Jesus are ‘the anointed,” since these are “called ‘sons of God.’” – The Watchtower, November 1, 2004, page 12.

Nebuchadnezzar “also slaughtered all the princes.” (Jeremiah 52:10) And obviously “does Isaiah’s description of ‘princes’ fit the role of Christian elders today.” (The Watchtower, May 15, 1993, page 14) “At any rate, the experienced elders and overseers will be available for the Messianic King to appoint as ‘princes’ … from the very start of his thousand-year reign”, so that he can “slaughter” them right after their appointment. – Man’s Salvation Out of World Distress at Hand!, page 363.

What about the remaining “Jehovah’s Witnesses” who “practice the true religion” in our day? (What Does the Bible Really Teach?, page 175) In Nebuchadnezzar’s time, “the Jews had … the true religion.” (Insight on the Scriptures, volume II, page 474) Accordingly, “Nebuchadnezzar destroyed Jerusalem … and carried most of the Jews off into exile in Babylon” and boasted about ‘having built Babylon the Great.’ (Daniel 4:30; The Watchtower, January 1, 2000, page 7) So the Jews became slaves of Babylon the Great – and the same will happen in our day, since “Nebuchadnezzar … pictures Jesus.” (Watch Tower Publications Index 1930-1985) All who practice the true religion will become slaves “of ‘Babylon the Great,’ the world empire of false religion” at Jesus’ instigation. (The Watchtower, May 15, 2008, page 16) “Yes, the day will come when the anointed remnant and their companions will become mute.” – The Watchtower, December 1, 2003, page 29.

In times of old, the Jews remained in Babylonian captivity even beyond the death of Nebuchadnezzar and the fall of his dynasty. Only after decades, when the Babylonian empire was overturned, they were released. (2 Chronicles 36:22, 23) But “Jesus, the Eternal Father, will live forever,” and “there will be no end to his Kingdom.” (Luke 1:33; Isaiah’s Prophecy – Light for All Mankind, volume I, page 131) Accordingly, “the visible theocratic organization of Jehovah God,” pictured by “the city of Jerusalem” in ancient times, will never be rebuilt after its destruction. – Paradise Restored To Mankind – By Theocracy!, page 148.

    http://dailytext2.wordpress.com/2013/12/08/false-christs-will-arise/

Alternative Daily Text for Sunday, December 8, 2013

“False Christs … will arise.” (Mark 13:22)

“For centuries, false messiahs have tried to predict the future.” (The Watchtower, April 1, 2000, page 12) How can we identify such impostors? After all, the Bible foretold that “many will come … saying, ‘I am the Christ.’” (Matthew 24:4, 5) But God’s word mentions a distinctive sign that allows us to identify false Christs beyond any doubt: “False Christs and false prophets … will perform great signs and wonders.” – Matthew 24:24; Mark 13:22.

Most “professed Messiahs” did not “perform great signs and wonders,” hence they did not qualify as false Christs. (Happiness – How to Find It, page 143) But the apostle Paul reported that “Jesus the Nazarene” performed “powerful works and wonders and signs.” (Acts 2:22) The Bible says of him and his kind: “They proved to be false, impostors, for they did not bring about any deliverance of Jerusalem nor any deliverance at all.” – God’s Kingdom of a Thousand Years Has Approached, page 320.

Jesus too “did not bring about any deliverance of Jerusalem.” Rather “Jerusalem was destroyed by the pagan Romans.” (Man’s Salvation Out of World Distress at Hand!, page 241) Jesus was a false prophet; he was even unable to correctly foretell his own death – he died Friday after “the ninth hour”, but “very early” on Sunday he was already alive again, so he had not been “in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights” at all. – Matthew 12:40; Luke 23:44; 24:1.

His other prophecies failed too – for example the prophecy that everyone who exercises faith in him would “never die at all,” or that all humans would see him “coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” (John 11:26; Matthew 24:30) And “when the prophet speaks in the name of Jehovah and the word is not fulfilled or does not come true, then Jehovah did not speak that word.” (Deuteronomy 18:22) Consequently Jesus was one of the “false Christs” who is to avoid.

    http://dailytext2.wordpress.com/2013/12/09/you-are-worth-more-than-many-sparrows/

Alternative Daily Text for Monday, December 9, 2013

“You are worth more than many sparrows.” (Matthew 10:31)

Jesus Christ forcefully showed that God is involved in the death of every single sparrow. He said: “Aren’t sparrows sold for next to nothing? … Yet not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father’s consent.” (Matthew 10:29, 20, CJB) Though sparrows are virtually worthless, God makes every single one “fall to the ground” at the time he deems advisable. Estimates say that there are “at least one billion sparrows” in Canada alone, and millions of them die every day. (The Boreal Forest at Risk) God decides to let a Canadian sparrow “fall to the ground” more than ten times per second, and in the remaining time he takes care of the sparrows in other parts of the world.

To his disciples, though, Jesus said: “You are more valuable to … [God] than a whole flock of sparrows.” (Matthew 10:31, NLT) A typical “flock of sparrows” is comprised of about 50 animals, an amount that ‘falls to the ground’ according to God’s will in less than a second. But he considers all Christians together “of more value than a flock of sparrows,” so he will wait more than a second before he lets them “fall to the ground” dead. – Matthew 10:31, BBE.

    http://dailytext2.wordpress.com/2013/12/10/as-the-one-dies-so-the-other-dies/

Alternative Daily Text for Tuesday, December 10, 2013

“As the one dies, so the other dies.” (Ecclesiastes 3:19)

Wise King Solomon said that animals die just like humans. And as is known, “death … is a direct result of sin and rebellion against God.” (The Watchtower, August 1, 1996, page 7) Does this mean that animals sin too and die therefore?

Yes, God’s word plainly shows that this is true. The Mosaic Law contained instructions for “donkeys” and “domestic animals,” for example, they were not allowed to work on the Sabbath. (Deuteronomy 5:14) But just as humans, so did the animals prove to be sinners. Eventually the prophet Jonah had to prompt the inhabitants of Nineveh: “Let them cover themselves with sackcloth, man and domestic animal; and let them … come back, each one from his bad way.” – Jonah 3:8, NWT 1984.

What should animals do to be saved? The psalmist invites them: “Praise Jehovah from the earth … you wild animals and all you domestic animals.” (Psalm 148:7, 10) Thus they should visit the congregation meetings with us, so that they have the opportunity “to praise Jehovah in the congregation.” (The Watchtower, April 15, 2007, page 23) Domestic animals must share in field service too; that’s why the Bible urges all homeowners: “Ask, please, the animals, and they will instruct you.” – Job 12:7.

In ancient times, God occasionally had to “cut off … earthling man and domestic animal.” (Ezekiel 14:19, NWT 1984) Hence, many domestic animals will be destroyed at Armageddon. Only those “who are sighing and groaning will survive. (Ezekiel 9:4) When our “domestic animal has sighed” and had a regular share in field service and in the congregation meetings, it might be saved. – Joel 1:18.

    http://dailytext2.wordpress.com/2013/12/11/he-was-wiser-than-any-other-man/

Alternative Daily Text for Wednesday, December 11, 2013

“He was wiser than any other man.” (1 Kings 4:31)

“King Solomon [was] one of the wisest men who ever lived.” (The Watchtower, May 15, 2007, page 14) “Solomon’s wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all the people of the East and all the wisdom of Egypt. He was wiser than any other man.” (1 Kings 4:30, 31) Since “wisdom usually comes with age,” we should expect that Solomon’s wisdom reached its climax in old age. (Making Your Family Life Happy, page 164). Which wise decisions did Solomon make when he was well along in years and wisdom?

The Bible reports that “in Solomon’s old age,” he ceased “trusting only in the LORD his God, as his father, David, had done.” (1 Kings 11:4, NLT) While his wisdom increased, he realized “that it would not be sufficient for someone … simply to go along with the religion of our parents.” (The Watchtower, March 15, 1981, page 4) As he finally understood, it can be “proper to leave the religion of one’s parents” if it proves to be wrong. (Reasoning From the Scriptures, page 324) Thus he freed himself “from religious falsehood” and the concomitant restrictions, “and Solomon did what was bad in the eyes of Jehovah.” (1 Kings 11:6; Our Kingdom Ministry, February 2002, page 1) If we are still enslaved by the Watchtower organization or by another cult, we should ask ourselves: “What is the wise course to follow?” – The Watchtower, May 1, 1970, page 271.
