SFPW, if JWs don't serve the organization with a stopwatch, why do they constantly reinforce how close the end is and how you must believe that it is? I really don't care if you believe in the organization or not. But since you are even here it indicates you think just a tad more than a typical JW.

With that being said even if you won't admit it on here, you have to see they are backing themselves into another corner with their current generation teaching which will yet again require another revision in the future. By then new JWs will be strung along not realizing how many JWs were brought into the organization being taught that the stop watch had to run out by 1994. Or how they changed it a few more times in the next twenty years, and then have to change it again since the overlapping generation teaching is 0 percent biblical and will run its useful course as well.

@free2beme- I totally agree. The witness thing is way more important to us and currently active members than the rest of the world. They are an oddity at best. I remember revealing my past to a current friend. I was sweating and worrying he would think that I was a total idiot. He just laughed and said something like- "Is that the worst you ever did???"

Part of the freeing process is realizing that their little reality is so far from actual reality.

@SFPW- you know- you shouldnt be posting on apostate websites- it could really screw with your faith.

How do they expect to mention such a concept without raising more questions than answers? In what way has this invivible reign been great, and for who? Does Jesus still have another 1000 years to reign, or is there only going to be a 900 year paradise under Jesus?

Really good point Paul. It doesn't work either way. The Bible talks of a 1,000 years only so...if the Big A were to come in 2014 (for arguments sake) that means either:

    a) Christ rules for for 1,100 years (100 years in heaven and a 1000 years over earth) or

    b) Christ rules for 1000 years (100 years in heaven and 900 years over the earth)

All in all a bit messed up.

    14. In a similar way, at the beginning of the 20th century, there were a number of wrong expectations among true Christians regarding “the last days.”

But SPFW - when did the apostles, or anyone in the Bible(!), preach 'wrong expectations' as fact. And enforce those 'wrong expectations' with the threat of disfellowshipping?

    Hmm?

SFPW - We don't serve Jehovah with a stopwatch

Wrong. JWs are one of the most prominent religious groups currently promoting specific dates for the end of the World. Other religions dont serve with a stopwatch, they serve God without needing false prophecies of the second coming. But for JWs, that stopwatch and end of the world predictions have been both the stick and the carrot.

Quoting SFPW - "For instance, in the year 1914, some thought that their being taken to heavenwas imminent. When their hopes were not immediately realized"

SFPW - Are you familar with what was being taught in the year 1914? Was it really 'some' who 'thought' that their being taken to heaven was imminent? Is it not true that the WT/GB/Leadership was teaching and that EVERYBODY thought because of that that it was going to be imminent?

Then after Rutherford took over, it all become even more so mandatory to belief everything published as from God himself and not listening to what was published was again God himself.

A direct question for you, SFPW, How does it make you feel that you are expected to take the words of the WT and the GB as from God himself and your future depends on it, yet they claim to not be inspired, and when what they had you bet your life on and do turns out to be false, they blame YOU!!

Did you not go to school or plan for retirement? Well when you are in your retirement years, and living in poverty, if you need help, the society will turn you away and say they don't do that sort of thing, and you'll see a nice article in the WT that says, "For instance, about 30 years ago many thought that they wouldn't live long enough to reach retirement years and didn't plan ahead. They had too eager expectations...."

How does it make you feel every time they have been shown to be obviously wrong, they blame everybody else?

Stand for pure worship, Jesus said there would be false teachers, he did not say and when you find one continue to go along with his false teaching because he admits that he's wrong once in a while or because he assures you that some day he will get it right.

    Well put Jwfacts

I might also add that other religions do not have a publishing house at its core operations, hence the exploitive use of

    dates and time scale propagation.
