For those who left: Are you better persons now?

    Hi friends,

I've read the thread "How many left over the UN issue?". I know GINOSKO, he is the elder, a very good friend of mine, I told you about when I wrote the threads about the UN and my congregation. We have talked in many occasions about our standing in the organization and our desire to please God rather than men (& keep doing that). That UN thing has made us almost leave the organization...We know the hypocrisy. But he posted a question that I think should have its own thread: "After you left the organization, Are you better persons now?. DO PEOPLE AROUND YOU THINK SO? (That is what counts, isn't it?). Do you feel closer to God now?. If you don't believe in God...Do you feel that you are better individuals now?...Do people around know the difference? Do you help people in need?. I ask this because the UN thing or any other thing that has made us leave the organization can have a positive o negative effect on us. Has the outcome been positive?... If the outcome has been negative, would you consider going back to the JWs (including the blood issue & shunning*)? if so, would you accept again all the tenets of the JW this is an honest question my friends...

    answer= yes
In the first place that was one of the reason i left...

Going back? i have not found a justification (or good excuse) to do that.

I agree with Naeblis. Leaving does not make you a better person ... we are basically who we are from our formative years ... leaving brings greater happiness because of enjoying freedom ... not freedom to screw up our lives, but freedom of the mind, to discover that our own conscience and ability to lead good lives works better than letting some unknown men in Brooklyn dictate to us what to think and believe. We find we are much better off.

    Hi CaballoSentado,

I will answer yes to your questions. I believe I am a better person now. I am still a believer in the God of the bible, so I will credit my Lord and Savior for the changes in my life.

People have made comments about the changes (for the better) in my life. I am happier than I have ever been in my life with a great sence of peace, and that in spite of the fact, that I have lost most of my family.

When I was a JW, (born and raised in it) I tried many times to be "good", I wanted to please Jehovah, but I continually failed. The reason was, I was trying on my own, to do what the bible shows ONLY our Lord can do.

When I learned that I can do nothing to earn salvation, that it is a FREE gift from God, and that my only obligation is to have faith in Him and give my life to Him, I was "free indeed" and started to enjoy life. (I will spare everyone the rest of the sermon.)

In the contetex Caballo asked the question, yes you do may become a better person.

    to whom it may concern,

Now you have the freedom to PRACTICE your good intentions (=good or person).

Now you can give money and time to, lets say, the Red Cross if you want to. I doubt you could do that while a jw, specially if an elder.

Wheter other persons notice your (mine in this case) better actitude is does not matter to me. I know who i am and that is eunogh for me.

Yes, I feel I am because When I walk through the mall or down the street or speak to my neighbor I honestly mean How are you or how is your business, it is a beautiful day. I am not trying to brown nose any body into buying a WTY or AW.

As a witness it was always how can I worm my way into a conversation and placer literature.

My love of neighbor has increased double fold and I don't feel hypocritical when inquiring about health, wealth, or anything else.....

I'm not sure how others perceive me now, but I know I am one heck of a lot less judgemental than when I was a witness.

My relationship with God has been affected. I pray very little any longer. I suppose I haven't a clue any longer as to what is going on in the greater scheme of things as far as God is concerned. The association with witnesses certainly did some damage.

    CaballoSentado,

One thing is for certain...my life is lived in a much more honest way.
No longer do I have to swallow my questions or fault myself for not fitting in
to the robotic life of people pleasing, page underlining and time counting! (The constant life of running, as though a hamster in an exercise wheel.)

Am I a better person? Being free from the debilitating weight of judging others, I believe, makes me a
"better person" by comparison to what ruled my psyche when I was one of the "hamsters." Also, no longer
wracked by guilt-guilt-guilt is an incomparable new freedom which also tallies in to the "better person" category...totally!
Also...I believe I have been "bettered" by being free to meet and invite wonderful people into my life, forming reciprocal friendships
    that have depth and substance.

Would I ever allow myself to re-enter the JW (solitary confinement) world?
    Unequivocally the answer is "NO".
