Is Asperger's considered to be a disability, or a difference?-valkyrie
Yeah I suppose nowadays we have to be politically correct. Lot's of websites for the issue it's a condition, or a difference. IMO, its all semantics, I don't give a smurf.
I know that in the womb my brain and my sons brain did not form properly in the hypothalamus. I don't tell people well that's me if you don't like it you can smurf off. I want to know stategies that can help me with my disabilities. I want to be more socially accepable.
Many don't care, and enjoy their own company.
The fact that it is used against both me and my son is unacceptable. It is a growing problem in Western countries that ASD kids are removed from families. Anyone from Arizona here? SWs are prejudice and need to pull their stats up to say they are safeguarding kids, when if fact they are emotionally abusing them by removing them from their family home.

Somewhere along the spectrum.
Make your disability your greatest strength....
BOTR- I saw that show too. William Shatner was in it too. The AS guy was called hands, cos he always kept his hands on his thighs. I thought it was funny and could identify with the prejudice that was completely exposed. It was cleverly exposed, the producer or director probably has AS, and was making a point.
There has been lots of debate about Spielberg having AS. If he doesn't want to get assessed, he won't get diagnosed there is loads of stigma.

You told me about your son on another thread, it's hereditary so I am not surprised your nephews have it too. See my point about the stats. 1 in 100 my bum, your family and my family already prove that false, never mind the undiagnosed ones.

Good advice, I will endevour to do that as an example to my son.-Kate xx
everytime I hear that 1 in 100 I laugh. My son is in a public school that has a pod for kids with autism. There are 45 kids in 1 - 4 grade out of 520 total students
confused,
Wow that's almost 1 in 10, and they are the ones that have a diagnosis. What is the diagnosis process like in the US? Here in the UK it's a challenge, some cities are better than others.

It is very very difficult to get a diagnosis in some areas here as well. My sisters oldest son who was diagnosed with ASD was 11 before they recieved an offical diagnosis. She knew for years but doctors would refuse to label him. They made all sorts of excusesd. However, after he began falling behind in school and she made a stink about it, they finally came through. With my son, he was diagnosed early because we likewise spent alot of time with multiple doctors trying to get to the bottom of it.
I wonder if you were the child who screamed out that the Emperor had no new clothes. Kate-BTOR
This is so true. We are talking metaphorically LOL, now I only picked up on it because I read it twice and know AS people take things literally.
So every time in the hall when everyone would would be thinking it, I would blurt it out loud. All my loved ones always used to hush me up, but I couldn't grasp why. They admitted the emperor wasn't wearing any clothes as it were, but told me I could't tell anyone about it. As I was a convert it was something I never stopped doing.
I can't really grasp how I got accepted for baptism in the first place. Strange. Probably my donations, I made a few.
