FHN - Presenting objective evidence that people can check out for themselves in their own time is in no way equivilent to religious proselytising.

Just last week somebody asked how they could go about deciding if atheism had merit. My advice was to do their utmost to prove that theism was true. Read the very best christian apologists, study its claims and consider whatever evidence you can discover.

That hardly sounds like somebody who pounces on potential converts does it?

Can you imagine a theist advising somebody to study science, to read Harris, Hitchens, Dawkins, Dennett, Ehrman and Shermer? Encouraging them to face up to the very best possible argumements against theism.

There is no comparison.

Arrogantly killing conversations with "god just told me that the answer is .........." is a problem when you hear it for the thousandth time.

Keep it on your forum where that sort of thing gets a standing ovation.

Thats part and parcel of dealing with people who Talk to Jesus..

"My Lord told me,This,That,or the Other Thing"..LOL!!..They`re all like that..

They don`t expect me to agree,they`re just sharing..

So theres not much point in taking it personally..

It`s when you tell them they didn`t hear it,they will defend themselves..

I never go there..You`ll get your ear talked off..LOL!!..

Cofty, I'm not picking out pouncers on either side. I just don't like it when I see it, from anyone, especially if it is directed at people who are just coming out of the org. I remember needing a breather, for a while, and just the freedom to explore my own feelings and questions when they would surface. The things that helped me the most were to remember my father's native American spirituality and to read Jehovah Unmasked. I am speaking of the time after I had read some former-jw stories and Crisis of Conscience. I'm very grateful that no one pounced on me, from either side. Everyone is on a unique journey.

I agree FHN. That is why my advice to exiting JWs is always the same. Focus on family and friends, hobbies, education, careers and fun.

Come back to the big questions much later.
