I am addicted. Sam, this organization was a large part of our lives. It demands total attention. I find this site gives me information. My every day life does not give me access to former Witnesses. Knowing that others reacted the same way I did is useful to me. Frankly, I don't understand my interest b/c I've been out for decades but it certainly appears I have one. It is not easy to make new friends. The process takes a while. A lot depends on what type of community you live in now. Liverpool is a large city so there should be meetups, museums, clubs, etc. Basically, rather than go to meetings, attend an alternative activity. Bars are not a good place to meet friends. It could depend on the crowd at each other bar. I gravitate to libraries and professional groups.
We both have spent time in an intense cult. Friends are chosen for you. There will be a time of transition. I have no doubt that you wil make real friends in the long run. Sometimes it can be scary in the short run. There is no reason you can't post here and do things in real life. Give yourself a chance. Transitions are never easy for me. I've ended in great places in the end. The price of staying would be too high. Freedom can seem scary.
Hey, you know to make real friends. You seem warm and outgoing from your posts. Give yourself some time. Rome was not built in one day.
