I have joined a group that accepts me for who I am, treats me like family and has really great interactions and relationships. They don't judge, they don't care whether or not I show up to meetings or whether I don't show up for a while or never again (which you can't say for ANY church). I have about 100 REAL friends, 20 really close friends, a handful of even closer relationships that aren't dependent on me staying with the group or keeping to certain rules.

And the group I'm with also accepts religious people as well as atheists and we have great discussions among each other.

E o M , I`m a bit confused with your OP ...... Question for exjws who are now athiest. you seem to be dismissing the answers to your question if they dont involve some form of religion . As Black Sheep lists individual groups some sports others not here then are a few more that also include socialising with day trips and outings to theatre and BBQ`s . Senior citizens , and you only have to be over 18 years of age to join that., Probus , Some shires have what they call "Older and Bolder " activities for interested people . Bowls clubs, sporting clubs of all sorts, too many to mention all have social events that people can become involved in .Here in Victoria Aust. their is also U3A ," University of The Third Age " which has a wide range of activities one can engage in , incl. astronomy discussion groups , dance various styles , book reading , the list goes on and on. I have joined most of these groups I have mentioned at one time or another , and like any organization their are people you gravitate towards and their are people you leave alone . We cant be freinds of everyone . Thats human nature . If you doubt that, then remember not everybody liked jesus christ , and certainly not everybody likes jehovah.

I didn't join any groups or religions, didn't want to do so. I eventually made friends with people at school, people at work, that sort of thing. I have friends who seem like family to me.

As for humanitarian work, I donate to local causes to help the people in this town and the neighboring areas.
