It's interesting that WT outsourced some legal work. Any details of the firm, and the fee's. I would love to know. Kate xx

Brooklyn and the Canada Branch have legal departments made up of both lawyers and administrative help. Many years ago Brooklyn had a least 5 lawyers who were either Bethelites or moved their families to Brooklyn and were financially supported by the WT.
Last I heard in Canada they had John Burns, Shane Brady, and Linda How as lawyers. Both John and Shane were Bethelites sent to law school by the Society. They also sent Russell Agar to Law School but he got himself DF'ed before he finished. He remains loyal to them however. They regularly used Daniel Pole who lives in the general area of the Branch Office. Also a JW lawyer in Edmonton. A non JW lawyer whose wife is a JW (David Day) is also used often.
They try to do as much in house as possible but have a few lawyers in their back pocket across the country as needed. Note even if they hire an outside lawyer, most of the admin work is done by Bethelites to keep the costs down.

Stillin: Have you spoken to a lawyer about your situation yet? Not giving legal advice or telling you what to do, but you called it "our will," and also mentioned that you would change the will to exclude the WTS if you wife were to pass first. If you truly do have a mutual will, they are often set up so that one spouse can't change the will after the other spouse dies. The point is usually so that a less favored child (or a stepchild) can't be removed after one spouse dies. Only a lawyer who looks at your will can tell you how yours works. It would be a shame to be stuck with a will giving money to the WTS if it could be avoided.

stillin -- cover your bases and make sure your children are protected against evil watchtower. I heard many yrs. ago from a reliable source (I've posted this info here before) that the cult has some serious lawyers that are on the scene in seconds when they have an estate or inheritance bequeathed to them. I was told one can't believe how fast they move. This reliable source was actually friends w/one of the attorneys the cult hired to grab estates.
Their shunning and problems they've caused me is made me more resolved to structure any moolah my spouse and I have so that watchtower will never get their hands on a dime. I will have trustees watching and checking every penny earned off of investments my heirs ever receive or leave it all to orphanages or animal shelters. I just don't care what the repercusions are as long as that evil cult continues making demands on their victims and ex members.

ooops - correction this attorney was not outsourced that this friend of mine was friends with but a witness. I'm sure if they have problems once they fly in to grab their share and anything else they can claim they hire outside guns.
My spouse's firm is a big gun firm that does probate -- have even written the probate laws for this area. It is very specialized although that's not his specialty.
