I would agree that ones association with the Society tends to spoil it for furture association with any other Church, however, if you are God fearing and haven't let the Society theology taint your view of God and His Word, I would suggest you read your Bible and rely on the holy spirit for guidance.

There's nothing wrong with relying on so called "help books" or "scriptural resources" in our aid to understand the word, just as liong as we "make sure of all things" and not just accept them because someone says so.

I myself have been associating with a groyup of Bible Students for the last ten years and am deeply indebted to them, unlike how the Society likes to protray them as Russellites" or "man-worshippers" these are the most Christlike people I have ever met, studying the word and proving ALL things, and in my travels within their circles, I have found many former witnesses and even current witnesses who either sympathized or actually fellowship and study with them, including bethelites, former elders, servants and pioneers.

You will need to find someplace you are comfortable, but never forsake the gathering of the saints.

i believe that reporting your time and underlining the watchtower have pagan beginnings...........
and chanting the same song , at the same time, en masse around the world, using the ancient symbols of musical notes surely has pagan overtones......

    Hey RR,

I was wondering how you found the group you study with now? They sound like great people. Hope to someday find something similar, when I'm ready to start *seeing other people* lol

    Thanks!

    And lol to critter!

<singing in lowest bass possible> FIRM AND DETERMINED IN THIS TIME OF THE END!prepared are Gods servants the good new to defend!

    Scaaaaary stuff!

Actually though, even though some of the songs are silly <interesting side note song 117: marriage is gods arrangement, can be sung in its entirety to the muppet show theme song. really...try it> And song 220: Our paradise: Present and Future sounds exactly like a hula song :)
But for the most part I really liked singing the songs <Even though most of the notes were waaay outta my reach.>
Some of them are quite beautiful such as 115: Have intense love for one another, and my favourite song is 77:Jehovah is my shepherd. I think if I never go back that the songs are one of the things I will miss most. Oh geez now I'm getting all misty eyed Somebody slap me quick.

    LOL @ eyes!

I just tried singing Song No 117 to the Muppets theme - it does work!!

As for Song No 220 sounds like a hula song because it was written by a Hawaiian brother.

#88 was my favourite. Lovely song if you can reach those notes.

    eyes_opened,

Be careful of what group you think of joining. Even amongst RR's group one can be castigated for disagreements among the body. Charles T. Russell is held in high esteem by the Bible Students. To disagree with Russell or BR. Johnson or any other BS that wrote Bible Student theology, one can be set apart from the rest.

I have proof to back this up.

In case RR is wondering what I mean, does Eric Martin ring a bell?

What about those that have been banned from your forum, Bravenet ( now defunct) and the one you run now.

I have nothing against you RR, but Russell was out there in left field without a glove.

No can do Eyes! If you wanna start seeing other people, you have to remember the good, the bad, and the downright, weird
BTW I agree with the first sentence in Scorpions post. Be careful!
    Claudia,
God is closer than you think, if you pray to Him I bet you find that He never left you! You don't need an organized religion to have God in your life.

I am always surprised by the Wt attitude towards beards. When I was involved no bearded brother (or sister!)was allowed to be a servant or elder though in a few back-waters beards were tolerated.

Shaving is a pagan habit unheard of amoung the early Christinas. The WT were slow to realize this and some of their earlier calenders around1960 showed Jesus as clean shaven. The Egyiptians, Greeks and Romans shaved, the Jews and early Christians did not. Russell had a beard and that was ok at the time, which means the WT follow their idea of fashion and custom. The ban on beards has no Biblical support, in fact it is more Christ like to wear a beard. How long before the wearing of a beard is compulsary. A new truth/new light about to shine out of Bethal - maybe! Unless the WT own shares in Gillette razors.
