crazyguy - I could understand the "natural disaster" logic, but were we are, we don't experience any real natural disasters, no earthquakes, flooding, hurricanes etc. I agree LisaRose that it is very sad to go to this extreme to frighten people into submission. We didn't even have these "go bags" during the 1975 debacle. I think we had more faith then that we would be taken care of when the big A came, and it shows what a panic the borg is displaying now.

Fading Begins... That is an interesting observation, about 1975... and no talk of 'Go Bags' or 'survival gear' back then.
It was all wait on Jehovah and HE will take care of us.
When I was a publisher and not questioning anything, I took the WT at its word. If they said God was going to look after us, then that is what I was taught to believe, so that is, what I believed.
Looks like nu -lite.
WT GB JW.ORG is telling us, that God is NOT going to look after us, after all. It is every man for himself.
How will some JW's PAY for 6 months of medications? Many of the poorer ones are just getting by, now.
This is all fine and dandy... It is generally good advice, for anyone if you can afford it. Disaster planning is important and life sustaining. Everyone knows that.
Then there is the added stress, where do I keep my 'WT designated Survival Bag'? In the house? In the car? A number of Elder's in my area have really nice
Travel trailers, just big enough to house their family. What about the poorer Bros and Sister's? What do they do?

"with enough provisions to last for six months".
I'd love to see that bag .

If memory serves there was an Awake article about this, two or three years ago. It is just another way to embed the "Siege Mentality" in to the minds of JW's, who imagine that shortly before the Big A they will have to "Flee to the Mountains".
The fact this idea is being mentioned again shows that theWT feels the need to keep up the "End is near" fear in the JW's.
The only End that is near is the "Use Before" date on all that food.

Hi Fading Begins,
"brothers were told to pack up a "survival kit" with enough provisions to last for six months - water, medications etc."
Interesting and not worse advice one could give. This struck me as Mormon-esq, as they are encouraged to have on hand 1 year supply of food. The local Costco has several items you can see are designed to be bought by those interested in this.
However, if you want to be practical how about this...
Brother & Sisters, try and save up enough money to live several months between jobs.
Brother & Sisters, think ahead to your retirement years, save little by little so you'll have what you need in retirement. Many governments have allow you to put savings into an account that is not taxed (aka 401K, IRA and RothIRA for the USA and RRSP for Canada). Do that.
Brother & Sisters, plan now for your post public school education -- it can be expensive -- but it is a known fact that those who have post public school education will be higher wage earners and have more job flexibility over their lifetime. College and University education oftentimes results in the development of critical thinking skills that in turn can help people see logical fallacies, even when presented within the context of cherished beliefs.
Cheers,
-Randy

I have to defend this in this circumstance to my own nausea. The go bags have never been presented to have for the big a. Every letter read about them has always said for natural disasters. The wtbs actually took this idea from FEMA. Of course the JW is going to take this bag as meaning it's for the big A which the wtbs is not going to say otherwise. They started pushing the go bags pretty hard after hurricane Katrina happened if my memory serves me correct. In any case these go bags are not bad ideas to have if you live in an area where a natural disaster hits. People were murdering over a bottle of water they were so desperate when Katrina hit.

What doe the WTBTS recommend to JWs when someone else wants their survival bag and is prepared to take it by force? Wait on Jehovah?
Considering that the WTBTS is promoting maintaining a survival bag, I am suspicious of their motives. To me it sounds like a way to increase the fear of JWs instead of a true concern for their well-being. JWs would be better prepared by visiting the following website instead of listening to the WTBTS about creating a survival bag: http://www.ready.gov/are-you-ready-guide
BTW a go-bag refers to bags that military and emergency response members keep filled with clothes and toiletries in case they are deployed ASAP.
Peace be with you and everyone, who you love,
Robert

Six months? Impossible. Do you know how much potable water that would add up to? My pharmacy and insurance would never allow me to stockpile six months' of medication.
The Canadian disaster preparadeness advice is to prepare for 72 hours. I've got a portable radio, flashlight (manual cranks), camper's food, change of clothes, scans of important papers, and empty water bottles in mine. I'm banking on enough time to fill the bottles.

BTW, our apartment building recently had a fire alarm at bedtime; outside temperatures were freezing. For the first few moments, alarms blaring, we ran around like headless chickens until we ran out on to the snow in PJ's and parkas. I forgot our medication.
If it had turned in to an all-night affair, hubby and I would have camped out at our daughter's, but without our medication it would have been a real hardship.
I'm re-thinking our preparadeness plan. I'm putting our meds in easy-to-grab ziplocs.

"survival kit" with enough provisions to last for six months - water, medications etc.
Six months of water, at lets say 2 quarts or liters per day, would require a small truck to transport.
