I would like to show my friend that the Watchtower change their mind all the time about Higher Education over the years. they usually discourage Higher Education as we all know that. I would like to show him the WT quotes. If you can find the flip and flop quotes, I will appreciate it. Thank you!

Of course I cannot document it, but several years ago when the flip/flop took place going against education again, I was shocked at the negative talk at the Dist Conv, so we went to another Dist Conv the following week nearby. The tone of this talk was cautionary but no where near as negative nor as much of an attack at the first Conv. It was night-n-day. I could only suspect that the 2nd speaker or circuit or region was more favorable to seeing their own children get a good education for their future.
I doubt the Conv outlines for talks give anyone that much personal latitude anymore.

I sat at our Assembly Hall during one of these 'speeches' that make fun of Education.
A good 75% laughed out loud, about the stupidity of acquiring 'higher education'.
We just shook our heads.
My now ex had a manuscript talk outline. There was one with Education, mixed in it. Most Elder's did not want to touch that outline, with a 10 foot pole. My ex was a Uni grad. He was the only one in an area of several Circuits, who was available and willing to give that talk. He cherry picked his sentences, so when he was the public speaker, he encouraged Trade Schools and University, not forgetting your spiritual life, while doing so. Those in the congo who had availed themselves of these resources, would come up to us after, and thank him.
I think back now, hearing this stupid 'laughter' and realize that was 10 years ago. I am out. That 75% who laughed are still 'in' or dead.

Wonder if they thought about it on Monday when they went back to work?

Band on the Run
I was so exciting to start college. It was a big step for a JW girl in a working class neighborhood. There was fear, too. My neighbor took exception to my blue jeans and love beads. He made obscene gestures at me. I realized he was the one with a problem. My grandmother who loved me was proud but also made fun of college students in my presence. Her brain must have been fried. It hurt me deeply. My JW relatives knew me. They knew I was moral. I had not yet had much of a chance to be worldly. If I lived a few towns over, I would have been celebrated.
It has been decades. I am still amazed at how ignorant Americans are. There is such distrust of intellectual life. I don't understand it.
We all know that when Bethel needs special skills............
Are people stating that in the past JW life was more determined by the personal whims of the individual elders but now it is more uniform with Bethel gaining more centralized control? I am not there now so I have no idea. So many times I was embarassed to be in the same building as the speakers. It seemed as tho I was always shocked and sliding down in my chair. Oh, if only I had arisen and made a mad dash for the door! What is the worse that would have happened? Would the police arrest me? I doubt it. Of course, I may have ended up in a foster home. I've always been interested in when teens are able to have certain rights. It would be interesting to research. Perhaps others might want to read about the topic.
It might make a valuable contribution here. Thank goodness for some brothers such as your ex, Lois.

I see in next weeks WT study (Dec 15th 2013) they are comparing "higher education" (your Career) with the "highest form of education" (Theocratic Ministry School).
