You are talking about sex biologically... which makes sense, but the true nature of "go forth and be fruitful" has lead us to massive overpopulation and possible species extinction of humans. Natural biology of life, if left unchecked can lead to our own demise. We have an envolution train filled with plants and animals who are all extinct to prove this with humans barely being in the last seat on the caboose.

Humans are now more social and technical than we are biological... so biology arguments fall short. We fight against DNA with liposuction and implants, we take pills to prolong life, we overeat and spend hours sitting doing nothing but staring at a computer screen. Everything from the waves pulsing though our bodies feeding our phones to the mutated "all natural organic" vegitables grown in the fields has mutated us ALREADY before we even get to the subject of sex - which is also now no longer biological but social. But the result is another leap over biology: Those of us with less than favorable genes can still reproduce (we do not die off as before), and orphans can grow up in happy loving homes. Sex, biology, reproduction have all now taken seperate routes.

And with sex being less 'manditory' and regulated, people are allowed to be... US - who we want. We are allowed to be who want with who we want and sex takes on a different wonderful dimension... one of (almost) spiritual growth or suppression. It can be held in high reverence or as an All-American pasttime. It doesn't matter, we've overstepped biology in this regard already with condoms and hormones, the morning after pill, and quiet doctor visits after a woman's period is missed.

Biology, and the mutation of man is not really at play when it comes to sex. It's at play in ALL OTHER aspects of life, LOL. The sex we are seeing today seems more like the end-result outcome of all the other mutations combined.

Oub: "Let me guess, that must describe you to a "T"!"

If I were describing myself, I would have also included 'perfect teeth with no cavities'.

hear hear, and that kind of reproduction led to the starved children picture on the "Caring god thread" and the falling intelligence scores and the slow reversal of China's "one child" policy.

As to the origins of sex:

It is supposed to have begun with single celled organisms that reproduced asexually. When a predator is introduced into their environment (like a parasite) the cells learnt (I use this in an evolutionary sense) to group together - which provided them with greater security from a parasite. When the parasite left they would go apart again, but during this grouping they would mix DNA.

As predators became more prevelant the cells would group together for longer periods of time. They did not at this point become a multicelld organism - still just a colony of single celled, but they began to adapt to this formation to better conserve energy - they worked together to mutual benifit. For example in a 'colony' of eight cells the front two cells would be responsible mostly for using their eye spots to see danger and navigate etc (which later became eyes). The back two cells were responsible for reproducing (genitals) - they still reporoduced asexually, but when they reproduced, they cloned the ENTIRE colony, not just themselves.

All this is replicated in the lab.

Thanks for posting this, Cofty. Nearly everyone, and especially those raised on creationist theory, could use a little education in biology.

even as an uneducated observer, Sexual reproduction seems to be a very effective tool for evolution into all available niches.

it is happening in the niches, after all.

Billy, there is always hope for nerds like you and I. If you look at my profile picture you will see a picture of my daughter who is 50 years younger than me.

You are at a perfect age. Enjoy.
